We are supporting an NHS service in Shropshire to recruit a full-time Band 6 Community Occupational Therapist to join their locality therapy team. You will work across the Ludlow and Bishops Castle areas, providing high-quality, patient-centred occupational therapy input in both community and ward-based settings.
About the role
As a Band 6 OT, you will:
- Provide a seamless OT service along the patient pathway, supporting safe discharge home and preventing avoidable hospital admissions.
- Complete holistic OT assessments for adults with complex physical and psychological needs, setting realistic, patient-focused goals and treatment plans.
- Deliver evidence-based interventions in patients’ homes and community settings, using appropriate outcome measures to demonstrate impact.
- Work as an integral part of a multidisciplinary and multi-agency team, providing timely feedback and contributing to holistic care planning.
- Manage your own caseload autonomously, prioritising effectively and adapting to fluctuating clinical demands.
Leadership, supervision and education
- Supervise Band 5 OTs and rehabilitation assistants, supporting their ongoing development and, where appropriate, line management.
- Support the clinical education of OT students and offer learning opportunities to AHP, nursing and social care students.
- Contribute to training and education for carers and staff across health, social care, voluntary and independent sectors.
Governance and quality
- Work to Royal College of Occupational Therapists standards and relevant NSF/NICE guidelines.
- Maintain accurate, comprehensive clinical records and contribute to audit, outcome measurement and service development.
- Apply principles of clinical governance, risk management and safeguarding in day-to-day practice.
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Current HCPC registration.
- Significant post‑graduate experience, including community work and a range of clinical rotations.
- Strong MDT experience and confidence working in multi‑agency settings.
- Ability to meet the travel requirements of the post (covering Ludlow and Bishops Castle localities) – a driver with access to a car is essential.
- Excellent time management, communication and interpersonal skills, with a flexible and resilient approach.
