About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Fitter to join a fast growing rail organisation, supporting the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of diesel and/or electric locomotives.
This is a hands-on role ideal for engineers with mechanical expertise who thrive in a fast-paced rail environment. You’ll play a key part in ensuring our fleet is safe, reliable, and fully operational.
Key Responsibilities

Conduct routine maintenance, fault-finding, and repairs on locomotives

Work on mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
*
Carry out overhauls and component rebuilds to industry standards
*
Support commissioning and testing of locomotives post-maintenance
*
Complete all job cards and maintenance records accurately
*
Adhere to safety, quality, and compliance procedures at all times
*
Work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team environment
What We’re Looking For
*
Recognised engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical or Rail Engineering)
*
Proven experience in locomotive or rolling stock maintenance
*
Strong fault-finding skills across both mechanical disciplines
*
Knowledge of diesel-electric systems, traction motors, braking systems, and control systems
*
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and maintenance manuals
*
Flexible and safety-conscious approach to work, basic tooling required
*
Experience working to depot maintenance schedules and procedures (preferred)
