How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Electronics, Automation & Instrumentation Trainer (Full Training Provided)

    Workington

    £30,000 - £42,000 + 28% Pension + 55 Days Holiday + Full Teacher Training + Excellent Career Progression

Are you an Electronics, Automation or Instrumentation Engineer looking to step away from industry and into a rewarding role where you can develop the next generation of engineers?

Do you want to move into a Monday-to-Friday position with exceptional work-life balance, over 50 days holiday, a market-leading pension and the opportunity to remain technical while making a genuine difference?

This is an outstanding opportunity to join one of Cumbria's leading technical education providers and play a key role in developing the future engineering workforce. Home to state-of-the-art engineering facilities, including the National College for Nuclear Northern Hub, the college delivers world-class technical education to apprentices, full-time learners and degree-level students, with a mission to enable people to recognise and develop their potential.

With continued investment in its Engineering provision and ambitious plans for growth, the college is looking for an experienced industry professional who wants to transition into education. Full teacher training and a recognised teaching qualification will be provided, making this the perfect opportunity for someone looking to leave shift work, shutdowns or site-based engineering while staying connected to the technologies they know and enjoy.

In this role, you'll deliver a combination of practical and classroom-based training across Electronics, Automation and Instrumentation disciplines. You'll teach apprentices and engineering learners topics such as programmable logic controllers (PLCs), automation systems, robotics, embedded systems, electronics, electrical science, process control and instrumentation principles, helping them develop the technical knowledge required for careers within modern engineering industries.

The ideal candidate will come from an Electronics, Instrumentation, Automation, Control Systems or EC&I background, with experience gained in industries such as Nuclear, Power Generation, Manufacturing, Chemical Processing, Industrial Automation or Process Engineering. Previous teaching experience is not required - the college is looking for someone with strong technical knowledge, industry credibility and a passion for developing others.

This is a fantastic opportunity to build a long-term career in education, enjoy exceptional benefits and job security, and inspire the next generation of Electronics, Automation and Instrumentation Engineers while continuing to work with cutting-edge engineering technologies.

    The Role

*Deliver Electronics, Automation & Instrumentation theory and practical sessions to apprentices and engineering learners

*Teach PLCs, robotics, automation systems, embedded systems, electronics and electrical science

*Support, mentor and develop learners through their engineering qualifications

*Full teacher training and recognised teaching qualification provided

*Monday to Friday, 37-hour working week

*Excellent long-term progression and professional development opportunities

    The Person

*Background in Electronics, Automation, Instrumentation, EC&I or Control Systems Engineering

*Experience within Nuclear, Power Generation, Manufacturing, Industrial Automation, Process or Chemical Engineering

*Level 3 qualification or higher in a relevant Engineering discipline

*Knowledge of PLCs, Automation Systems, Robotics, Embedded Systems, Electronics or Electrical Science

*Looking to move into a long-term training and education role

    *No previous teaching experience required

*Passionate about developing the next generation of engineering professionals
