Are you a hands-on Prototype Technician with experience in electronics, cabling, and model building? Would you like to work on cutting-edge unmanned maritime and aerospace-inspired prototype systems within an innovative and growing company?
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking business operating in advanced prototype development, including scaled models and unmanned vehicle technologies. You will be working closely with engineering teams to build, test, and refine experimental systems in a workshop-based environment.
In this varied role, you will be responsible for 3D printing prototype components, assembling and wiring electrical and electronic systems, and supporting electrical motor testing and performance evaluation. You will also be heavily involved in building and testing scaled RC model aircraft and prototype systems, including working with balsa, plywood, and foam components, as well as supporting CNC and laser-cut parts.
You will assist in the assembly of test benches, contribute to prototype testing activities, and help maintain accurate documentation of builds, modifications, and test results. This role also involves general workshop support, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of prototype builds.
This exciting opportunity is ideal for a Prototype Technician or similar looking to develop their skills within a dynamic and highly technical environment. The role offers a Monday to Friday schedule, performance bonus, and company share scheme.
The Role
3D printing, including operation, maintenance, and optimisation of printed components
Cabling, wiring, soldering, and crimping of electrical and electronic systems, including EMI shielding
Supporting electrical and motor testing, recording performance data and assisting engineers with analysis
Building, assembling, and testing scaled RC model aircraft and prototype systems
Working with balsa, plywood, foam, laser-cut, and CNC-machined components
Assembly and setup of test benches for prototype and system testing
Supporting workshop organisation, documentation, and day-to-day prototype developmentThe Person
Hands-on experience with cabling, soldering, and practical electronics or mechanical assembly
Experience with RC model aircraft building or a strong willingness to develop model-building skills
Familiarity with materials such as balsa, plywood, and foam, or experience with CNC/laser-cut components
Experience using and maintaining 3D printers
