How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Due to continued growth, we’re looking for a Head of Market Compliance to join our Regulation & Compliance department here at Drax.

As the Head of Market Compliance, you’ll be responsible for Drax’s second line of defence (2LoD) in relation to physical, financial and GB customer energy market related compliance, ensuring we remain in line with our UK and, where applicable, EU regulatory requirements.

Reporting to the Group Regulation & Compliance Director, you’ll play an integral role in leading the development and continual improvement of policy and assurance processes to help support the delivery of Drax’s strategy, as well as helping to shape a progressive compliance culture across the organisation.

    Who we are:
We’re not just talking about making a difference, we’re making it happen. We generate dispatchable, renewable power and create stable energy in an uncertain world. Building on our proud heritage, we have ambition to become the global leader in sustainable biomass and carbon removals.

You’ll be joining our teams of practical doers, future thinkers and business champions. We’re enabling a zero carbon, lower cost energy future for all, and working hard to decarbonise the planet for generations to come.

    About the role:
As the Head of Market Compliance, you’ll be responsible for developing a multi-year compliance strategy covering all GB energy market related activities, maintaining our licence to operate whilst preparing the business for expansion into new technologies and markets.

    Key accountabilities include:

    • Support the development of Drax’s growth strategy, including the FlexGen portfolio, the future of Drax Power Station and the development of energy services offerings (e.g. Asset management, EV fleet management, SMART/MHHS readiness, NESO/DSO service provision, etc.).
    • Ensure the team provides effective, consistent advice, guidance, training and assurance on existing and forthcoming obligations within the GB energy market regulatory landscape.
    • Develop and continually improve internal market policy framework (wholesale and retail), in line with latest guidance and regulatory/policy changes, working closely with the Regulation and Policy teams.
    • Lead compliance risk evaluation activities and develop appropriate mitigation strategies, keeping senior leaders informed (across multiple disciplines) and taking a lead in proactive/collaborative risk mitigation.
    • Lead internal investigations and associated regulatory interactions (traded market, customer fraud, consumer impact, etc.) across wholesale and retail
    • Represent Drax and build relationships at external events, including trade body committees and forums.

    Who we’re looking for:
To be successful in this role you’ll ideally have…

    • Excellent working knowledge of compliance programme development and improvement within Energy, Power, Utility or related sectors.
    • In-depth knowledge of UK and EU market regulatory requirements – ideally wholesale and retail.
    • Proven experience of representing multi-discipline teams at senior leadership meetings and committees.
    • Ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities whilst driving strategic change.
    • Ability to communicate across a wide range of stakeholders across a corporate organisation.

    Rewards and benefits:
As you help us to shape the future, we’ve shaped our rewards and benefits to help you thrive and support your lifestyle. If successful in this role, you’ll get:

    • PSP bonus plan
    • A discretionary bonus depending on company performance
    • Private Healthcare
    • SAYE (Sharesave): discretionary scheme from time to time
    • Personal accident cover
    • Group personal pension plan where we’ll contribute up to 10%
    • Holiday - 25 days plus bank holidays
    • Reimbursement of the cost of your annual membership of one relevant and appropriate professional body

We’re committed to making a tangible impact on the climate challenge we all face. Drax is where your individual purpose can work alongside your career drive. We work as part of a team that shares a passion for doing what’s right for the future. With Drax you can shape your career and a future for generations to come.
