How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job Description

    The Senior Engineer – Mechanical – Auxiliaries is responsible for providing technical expertise and engineering support in the design, development, installation, and maintenance of mechanical auxiliary systems within energy and oil and gas projects. This role ensures that mechanical auxiliary equipment functions efficiently, reliably and complies with relevant industry standards and safety regulations. The role involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to deliver engineering solutions that meet project objectives and timelines.

    Job Duties

    Lead the mechanical engineering design and review of auxiliary systems including, but not limited to, pumps, compressors, fans, heat exchangers, and associated piping and instrumentation.
    Develop and maintain technical documentation such as specifications, datasheets, calculations, and reports to support project requirements.
    Conduct detailed engineering analyses and risk assessments to ensure system integrity and compliance with relevant codes and standards.
    Support procurement activities through evaluation of supplier documentation, technical queries, and equipment inspection as required.
    Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians within the team.
    Collaborate with project managers and other engineering disciplines to ensure integration of mechanical auxiliary systems within overall project scope.
    Participate in site visits and inspections to verify installation quality and resolve engineering issues during construction and commissioning phases.
    Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and implement best practises related to mechanical auxiliary equipment performance and reliability.
    Ensure all engineering activities comply with health, safety and environmental regulations and company policies.

    Required Qualifications

    Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline from a recognised institution.
    Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership is highly desirable.

    Education

    Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification.

    Experience

    Minimum of four years’ experience in mechanical engineering within one of the above sectors.
    Proven track record in the design and delivery of mechanical auxiliary systems for large-scale projects.
    Experience in engineering software tools relevant to mechanical design and analysis.
    Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and manage engineering deliverables.

    Knowledge and Skills

    In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems used in energy and oil and gas industries, including pumps, compressors, heat exchangers and associated auxiliaries.
    Strong understanding of relevant British and international standards, codes, and regulations.
    Competent in performing engineering calculations, stress analysis, and system optimisation.
    Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail and quality.
    Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, suitable for technical and non-technical audiences.
    Proficiency in industry-standard engineering software and tools.
    Ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple deadlines within a fast-paced project environment.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Postgraduate qualification in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
    Experience with offshore and onshore energy installations.
    Knowledge of project management principles and experience supporting project delivery.
    Familiarity with health and safety management systems and environmental regulations pertinent to engineering projects.

    Working Conditions

    The role is based primarily in an office environment with regular visits to project sites and construction locations.
    Working hours are full-time, with the possibility of extended hours to meet project deadlines.
    Occasional travel to offshore or remote sites may be required, subject to project demands.
