Scope of the Post The Deputy Residential Manager is required to support the Registered Manager in providing effective clinical leadership, governance, and management. You will play a vital role in securing, sustaining, and promoting the reputation and daily operation of the home, acting as the lead in the Registered Manager's absence.
You will assist in the delivery of high-quality holistic care, ensuring the environment remains conducive to individual needs and practice development within the legislative framework of quality assurance. By adopting a person-centred approach, you will mentor the team to give each young person the strongest voice regarding their lifestyle choices and decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
*
Operational Support: Assist the Registered Manager in the day-to-day management of the home. Act as a positive, approachable role model with a regular presence on the floor.
*
Team Consistency: Work collectively with the team to ensure care plans are delivered consistently, regardless of personal values or external pressures.
*
Staff Development: Support the induction of new staff and assist in conducting regular supervisions and annual appraisals in line with company policy.
*
Accountability: Help manage staff performance through objective setting and constructive feedback, ensuring professional and competent care is maintained.
*
Rota Oversight: Assist in managing the shift pattern to ensure staffing ratios meet the needs of the young people, preventing disruption to their routines.
Main Duties – In the Home
*
Compliance: Maintain a deep understanding of the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and ensure the home is always "inspection-ready."
*
Resource Management: Support the Registered Manager in managing budgets, petty cash, and the effective use of resources to maintain the home’s standards.
*
Therapeutic Engagement: Coordinate with Wellbeing Services to ensure that therapeutic interventions are woven into the daily life of the young people.
*
Environment: Monitor the "homely" standard of the décor and ensure maintenance tasks are logged and completed in line with Health & Safety.
Care Planning & Safeguarding
*
Care Coordination: Oversee the evaluation of care plans, ensuring they are up-to-date and that the young person is actively involved in the process.
*
Risk Management: Proactively identify and action risks associated with mobility, challenging behaviour, and emotional needs.
*
Clinical Responsibility: Meet professional and legal responsibilities for the storage and administration of medications and the oversight of home finances.
*
Safety Standards: Assist in ensuring the home complies with all statutory obligations, including fire regulations and environmental health.
External Relationships
*
Professional Liaison: Establish and maintain strong relationships with relatives, social workers, local authorities, and the local community.
*
Incident Reporting: Support the Registered Manager in reporting serious incidents to Ofsted and the Local Authority within the 24-hour statutory timeframe.
*
Recruitment: Participate in the selection and interview process for new Residential Support Workers to ensure a high standard of "Safer Recruitment."

Training & Experience
*
Experience: At least 2 years’ experience in a residential children’s setting is essential, with demonstrable experience in a supervisory or senior role.

Qualifications: Must hold a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare and be either holding or willing to work towards a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management.
*
Knowledge: A robust understanding of Ofsted's "Quality Standards" and safeguarding procedures.
*
Intervention: Must be willing to undertake NFPS Physical Intervention and Behaviour Management Training (used only as a last resort)
