How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Caretaker
    Sutton Bank National Park Centre

The North York Moors National Park Authority helps to care for one of the UK’s most distinctive protected landscapes. Spanning 554 square miles, the National Park is home to expansive heather moorland, woodland, remote dales, historic villages and dramatic coastline, and plays an important role in supporting nature, communities and sustainable access for visitors.

We are now looking for a Caretaker to join us in Sutton Bank on a part-time basis, working 15 hours per week, for a fixed-term contract until November 2026.

    The Benefits

    - Salary of £10,547 - £10,883 per annum
    - 25 days’ annual leave, rising annually by one day to 30 days after five years’ service, plus public holidays (pro rata)
    - Local Government Pension Scheme

This is a fantastic opportunity for a practical individual with maintenance experience to join our respected organisation.

You’ll have the chance to strengthen your practical maintenance and site management skills within one of the UK’s most breathtaking landscapes, building valuable expertise in a varied and rewarding environment.

And, with a lighter part-time schedule of just 15 hours per week, you’ll enjoy greater flexibility and breathing space outside of work, making this the ideal role for balancing other priorities alongside a fulfilling position within the National Park.

    The Role

As Caretaker, you will help provide an efficient and cost-effective caretaking, cleaning and maintenance service across the Sutton Bank National Park Centre and its grounds.

Working closely with the Centre Manager, Groundsperson and wider team, you will carry out cleaning, routine maintenance and minor repairs across the site, helping ensure buildings, public areas and facilities remain clean, safe and well maintained.

You will also engage positively with visitors, contractors and volunteers, contributing to a welcoming environment while supporting grounds maintenance, site activities and the upkeep of equipment and facilities across the Centre.

    Additionally, you will:

    - Assist with grass cutting, litter clearance and the maintenance of signs and notices
    - Support contractors carrying out site maintenance and inspections
    - Organise and handle deliveries across the site
    - Assist with logistics for events and activities
    - Carry out fire alarm testing support activities
    - Monitor waste and recycling arrangements across the site

    About You

To be considered as a Caretaker, you will need:

    - Practical experience in building maintenance, including decorating and minor repairs
    - Experience managing contractors and work programmes
    - Experience working directly with the general public
    - Experience working as part of a small team
    - Previous experience handling and recording money
    - Practical skills, including joinery skills
    - Excellent communication skills
    - A full, valid driving licence
    - The ability to work occasional overtime, weekend shifts and out-of-hours callouts

Other organisations may call this role Facilities Assistant, Site Assistant, Maintenance Assistant, Premises Assistant, Site Operative, Grounds and Maintenance Assistant, Buildings Caretaker, or Facilities Caretaker.
