How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

We're supporting a leading construction consultancy in the recruitment of an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join the National Grid's Great Grid Upgrade – the largest overhaul of the UK electricity network in generations.

This programme forms part of National Grid's £30bn investment in electricity networks across England and Wales over the next four years, helping to connect renewable energy to homes and businesses while modernising the UK's power infrastructure.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to develop their career on nationally significant energy projects, supporting the delivery of complex substation and electrical infrastructure upgrades while working alongside experienced commercial professionals.

On-Site Requirement: 2–3 days per week

    Key Responsibilities

Support the commercial management and cost control of major substation and utility infrastructure projects.

Assist with the administration of NEC3/NEC4 contracts, including variations and compensation events.

Help prepare cost reports, budgets, forecasts, and financial updates for project teams and clients.

Support procurement activities, subcontractor management, and tender evaluations.

Assist with valuations, payment applications, and final account preparation.

Work closely with senior commercial staff, project managers, contractors, and clients to ensure effective project delivery.

Support risk management, cost planning, and project reporting activities.

Maintain accurate commercial records and contribute to project financial governance.

    Candidate Profile

Previous experience within a Quantity Surveying role, ideally gained within infrastructure, utilities, civil engineering, energy, or construction projects.

Understanding of commercial management principles and an interest in developing NEC contract knowledge.

Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.

Working towards professional accreditation such as RICS, CIOB, or equivalent is advantageous.

Strong numerical, analytical, and organisational skills.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships within project teams.

Proactive attitude with a desire to learn and develop within a leading consultancy environment.

    What's on Offer

Opportunity to work on one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes.

Full APC support, including mentorship from Chartered Surveyors, structured competency development, mock assessments, and ongoing guidance through to chartership.

Structured career development and clear progression opportunities within a leading consultancy.

Exposure to high-profile energy and utility projects.

    Competitive salary and benefits package.

Hybrid working arrangement with 2–3 days on site
