How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

We're supporting a leading consultancy engaged in the commercial delivery of a major UK energy infrastructure scheme across Kent and Essex, forming part of a significant programme to reinforce and modernise the national high-voltage transmission network.

The project is a key element of the UK's energy transition and involves the replacement of critical legacy infrastructure originally installed in the 1960s. Works include the delivery of a new high-voltage cable tunnel beneath the River Thames between Tilbury (Essex) and Gravesend (Kent), alongside associated cabling, headhouse structures, and upgrades to existing overhead line infrastructure across the wider route.

This nationally significant programme is designed to improve network capacity and resilience, enabling the transfer of cleaner, more affordable energy across the South East and beyond.

With construction already underway, this is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to gain exposure to complex tunnelling, marine-crossing engineering, and high-voltage transmission works while developing their commercial expertise within a supportive consultancy environment.

    Key Responsibilities

Support the commercial management and cost control of major infrastructure packages across Kent and Essex.

Assist with the administration of NEC3/NEC4 contracts, including compensation events, variations, and contractual documentation.

Support the preparation of project budgets, cost forecasts, valuations, and financial reports.

Assist with procurement activities, subcontractor management, and tender evaluations.

Maintain accurate commercial records and support change control processes.

Work closely with Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers, Engineers, and Contractors to support successful project delivery.

Assist in identifying and monitoring commercial risks and opportunities.

Undertake occasional site visits to gain exposure to project delivery and maintain commercial oversight.

    About You

Experience within a Quantity Surveying role or placement, ideally within infrastructure, civil engineering, utilities, or construction projects.

Degree-qualified (or working towards a degree) in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.

Understanding of commercial management principles and a desire to develop NEC contract knowledge.

Strong analytical, numerical, and organisational skills.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Proactive attitude and a genuine interest in developing a long-term career within infrastructure and energy projects.

Working towards RICS chartership or interested in pursuing APC accreditation.

    Why Apply?

Opportunity to work on a nationally significant energy infrastructure programme.

Exposure to major tunnelling works beneath the River Thames and high-voltage transmission projects.

Full APC support, including mentorship from Chartered Surveyors and structured development towards chartership.

Clear career progression within a leading consultancy delivering major infrastructure projects.

Exposure to complex NEC contracts and large-scale infrastructure delivery.

Flexible hybrid working arrangement combining site, office, and remote working.

    Competitive salary and benefits package
