How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Principal Software Developer

    I am looking for a Principal Software Developer to join a small team of 3 highly proficient, friendly people, consisting of; a team leader, mid-level dev, and you.

    Please note that this is an individual contributor role, which means that you will provide technical direction to the team you’re in, but you will not be responsible for the wellbeing of the team; that is in the remit of your peer- the Team Leader of your team.

    As an experienced and highly capable Software Developer, well-versed in modern software development best practice, cloud services, architecture, and high-quality solutions, this role will see you providing both hands-on software development yourself and technical leadership for the team you’re in, which looks after their major flagship product.

    For this product, they are in the middle of an upgrade from a legacy codebase that includes .Net MVC, Razor Pages, and AngularJS to the latest iterations of .Net core, Angular (v19+), Azure, and modern architectural patterns, etc.

    They have a pragmatic view of AI; they use it to assist them in their workflows as a tool, not a replacement for knowledge, and would expect you to do the same.

    You will be a democratic, force for good within the team and wider department; knowing when to take the initiative to instruct and when to listen and encourage those around you.

    You will make key decisions around a number of areas, including; software architecture, technology choices and solution design, and being a part of the architecture team of Principal Developers to collaborate across the their technical estate, all with the knowledge in mind that achieving software excellence is a group activity, and all ideas are welcomed, from everyone. Successful outcomes are something to be shared and for everyone to be proud of and contribute to.

    Tech-wise, you will be especially capable with the following; C#, Typescript, SQL, .NET, Angular, and a range of Azure platform-as-a-service components. You will also do great tests for every bit of code your write!

    You will be a hands-on, Senior member of the team, supporting and working closely alongside the Team Leader.
