Your new role
As a Mechanical Plumber, you'll be responsible for planned and reactive maintenance across a static HMP site. This includes fault-finding, repairs, and servicing of plumbing and mechanical systems, ensuring compliance, safety, and operational uptime in a secure environment. This is a temporary position supporting a busy maintenance contract, with potential for extension depending on workload and performance.
Duties and responsibilities
Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on plumbing and mechanical systems
Diagnose faults and complete repairs efficiently across a busy static site
Maintain pipework, fixtures, plant rooms, and associated mechanical equipment
Conduct routine inspections and ensure compliance with health and safety standards
Respond promptly to breakdowns and ensure minimal disruption to operations
Complete all work in line with contractual SLAs and KPIs
Accurately update job reports and maintenance records
Liaise with on-site teams, subcontractors, and management where required
Ensure all work is carried out within a secure environment in accordance with site procedures
Support wider maintenance tasks where required (multi-skilled duties)You may be required to perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned from time to time by your line manager/ project manager/ site manager. As appropriate, all necessary training will be provided to enable additional duties and responsibilities to be performed safely.

Details:Pay Frequency: Weekly
Standard Hourly Rate: £20.28
Working Days: Monday to Friday
Working Hours: 39 hours per week minimum
Additional Information: The current standard working hours are between 8am and 4pm, but hours could change if deemed appropriate by the contractors.
What you'll need to succeed
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing or equivalent
Experience in mechanical/plumbing maintenance (commercial or FM preferred)
Ability to work in a secure environment (MOJ clearance / eligibility required)
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
Multi-skilled experience (desirable but not essential)You will need to be honest, hard-working, reliable, trustworthy and have great attention to detail, alongside being an excellent team player. All applicants who are interested in the position must pass Prison Clearance, which can take up to 8 weeks. Once passed, this is valid for 5 years and can be transferred to any other prisons of a similar category.
