How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, the Assistant Management Accountant plays an important role within the Finance team. The postholder will assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and reporting packs, ensuring financial information is accurate, insightful, and delivered within agreed timescales. The role requires someone who can thrive in a fast-paced environment, effectively manage competing priorities, and adapt to changing business needs. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is motivated to contribute to the museum's ongoing growth and success.

    Key Responsibilities:

    2. Maintain fixed asset register and process depreciation calculations and journal postings.
    3. Prepare and post accruals, prepayments, deferred income, and accrued income adjustments as part of the month-end process.
    4. Perform stock valuations, reconciliations, and adjustment postings to ensure accurate inventory reporting.
    5. Take ownership of the monthly Gift Aid process, ensuring accurate preparation and submission of claims.
    6. Support the preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns in collaboration with the Financial Accountant.
    7. Contribute to internal and external audit processes by preparing and providing supporting documentation.
    8. Deliver finance inductions and training sessions to new employees, promoting understanding of financial processes and controls.
    9. Assist with the maintenance, enhancement, and continuous improvement of finance systems and reporting tools.

    About You:

    Essential

    • Experience supporting the preparation of management accounts, including adjustments such as accruals.
    • Previous involvement in purchase ledger processing and/or reviewing purchase ledger transactions.
    • Demonstrated commercial awareness with a strong understanding of business operations.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including the use of pivot tables and advanced lookup functions.

    Desirable

    • Studying towards, or holding, a recognised accounting qualification (e.g. AAT, ACCA, CIMA, ACA), or equivalent practical experience.
    • Understanding of financial processes within a charitable or not-for-profit environment.
    • Familiarity with a range of accounting software packages, including Access Dimensions and Microsoft Business Central.

    Skills

    Essential

    • Commitment to identifying and implementing process improvements.
    • Self-motivated problem solver with a proactive attitude.
    • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
    • Excellent numerical, organisational, and analytical skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Capable of managing competing priorities and consistently meeting deadlines.

We’re committed to making our recruitment process inclusive and accessible to all candidates who meet the minimum requirements for the role. We particularly welcome applications from under‑represented groups within the accountancy profession. If you require any reasonable adjustments during the process, please let us know.
