How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    A leading fire engineering consultancy is seeking a Principal Fire Engineer to join their growing technical team. This Principal Fire Engineer position offers the opportunity to deliver complex fire engineering projects while supporting the development of both clients and colleagues.

    The successful Principal Fire Engineer will play a key role in project delivery, technical leadership and mentoring activities across the business. This Principal Fire Engineer opportunity would suit an experienced consultant looking to take ownership of major projects and influence technical standards.

    Working closely with senior stakeholders, the Principal Fire Engineer will provide expert guidance on fire safety design and engineering solutions. For an ambitious Principal Fire Engineer, this role offers genuine career progression within a highly regarded consultancy environment.

    The Principal Fire Engineer's Role

    The successful Principal Fire Engineer will be responsible for delivering a wide range of fire engineering and fire safety design projects from concept through to completion. The role will involve applying performance-based fire engineering principles, developing fire strategies and providing expert technical guidance across multiple sectors.

    Key responsibilities include:

    Delivering fire engineering projects and fire safety strategies for UK-based developments
    Leading technical reviews, quality assurance and peer review activities
    Supporting senior leadership with team management and technical direction
    Preparing fee proposals, tender submissions and project documentation
    Presenting technical findings, reports and workshops to clients and stakeholders
    Building and maintaining strong client relationships
    Mentoring and developing junior engineers within the team
    Contributing to the ongoing growth and technical capability of the business

    The Principal Fire Engineer

    The ideal candidate will have:

    Typically 5+ years' experience within a fire engineering consultancy environment
    Strong knowledge of UK fire safety legislation, Approved Document B and relevant standards
    Demonstrable experience delivering fire engineered solutions across a variety of sectors
    Experience developing and implementing fire strategies
    Excellent report writing, presentation and communication skills
    The ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines effectively
    Strong commercial awareness and experience supporting business development activities
    A collaborative approach with a passion for mentoring and supporting colleagues
