Role Purpose
Lead the application of process safety engineering across the project, influencing design, managing risk, and ensuring compliance with company and regulatory standards. This role combines technical depth with strong stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Process Safety Engineering Leadership
Act as Client authority for process safety, guiding inherently safe design
Provide risk-based input to Project Management decision-making
Assess complex safety issues and communicate implications clearlyHazard Identification & Risk Assessment
Lead and participate in HAZOP, PHA and other risk studies
Perform and review consequence analysis (dispersion, fire, explosion)
Apply techniques such as QRA, fault tree analysis and hazard identificationDesign Assurance
Review contractor and licensor designs for compliance and best practice
Ensure effective design of SIS, relief systems, and fire protection
Contribute to safety philosophies, specifications and standardsStandards & Governance
Develop and own process safety standards and procedures
Evaluate deviations and provide risk-based recommendations
Ensure consistent application of safety requirementsContractor Oversight
Review deliverables and resolve safety-related design issues
Ensure risks are clearly identified and reflected in design decisionsTechnology & Assurance
Assess risks of new technologies and support qualification processes
Deliver surveillance activities and define equipment criticalityExperience & Technical Profile
Core Expertise
Demonstrable process safety engineering experience in refining, petrochemical or chemical sectors
Strong knowledge of:
Hazard identification and risk assessment
Consequence modelling and dispersion analysis
Fire, explosion, and blast analysis
Relief systems and SIS designIndustry Experience
Background in major downstream or chemical process units preferably with one or more of the following: heavy oil upgrading, high pressure hydro processing, sour gas treatment, saturated gas recovery, ethylene cracking, offsites/utilities
Experience across both operator and contractor environments
Understanding of modular design impactsCapability
Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills
Experience developing engineering standards and design philosophies
