How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    School Caretaker / Stoke-on-Trent / ASAP / Fixed-Term Contract

    Are you a practical, reliable, and hands-on individual looking for your next opportunity within a school environment?

    Academics are currently working with a secondary school in the Stoke-on-Trent area who are seeking a dedicated School Caretaker to join their Site and Facilities Team on a full-time temporary basis. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with maintenance, caretaking, or handyman experience who enjoys a varied role and takes pride in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.

    The Role

    General maintenance and repair tasks across the school site
    Basic plumbing, painting, and DIY work as required
    Setting up rooms and equipment for school events and activities
    Conducting routine site checks and ensuring health and safety standards are maintained
    Opening and securing school buildings as part of the shift rota
    Supporting the wider site team with facilities management duties

    Working Hours

    This is a full-time position operating on a weekly rotating shift pattern:

    7:00am - 3:00pm
    8:00am - 4:00pm
    10:30am - 6:30pmThe role is expected to last approximately 2-3 months, with an immediate start needed.

    Requirements

    Have previous caretaking, site management, facilities, maintenance, or handyman experience
    Ideally have previous experience working within a school environment
    Be confident carrying out general repairs and maintenance tasks
    Be flexible and willing to work the rotating shift pattern
    Have a proactive and reliable approach to work
    Ideally already have an Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service
