How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    General Foreman – Civil Engineering

    Location: North East / North Yorkshire
    Employment Type: Permanent
    Salary: Competitive salary + package
    Sector: Civil Engineering / Main Contractor

    Fulcrum Recruitment is working with a well-established regional civil engineering contractor that is looking to appoint an experienced General Foreman to support the delivery of a strong pipeline of civil engineering projects across the North East and North Yorkshire.

    This is a long-term opportunity with a respected main contractor delivering a varied range of design-and-build infrastructure and public realm schemes.

    The company operates across the region, with current and upcoming projects covering areas such as South Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire and the wider North East. The work is regional, meaning no regular lodging away and the opportunity to be home every night.

    The Role

    As General Foreman, you will take day-to-day responsibility for site operations, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently and to the required standard.

    You will supervise direct labour and subcontractors, coordinate plant and materials, maintain site records, support short-term planning and work closely with Site Agents, Project Managers and the wider delivery team.

    This role would suit an experienced General Foreman who takes pride in site standards, communicates well with site teams and clients, and can keep works moving without compromising safety or quality.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Lead day-to-day site operations across civil engineering projects

    * Supervise direct labour, subcontractors, plant and materials

    * Ensure works are delivered safely, on programme and to specification

    * Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks and RAMS briefings

    * Maintain high standards of health, safety, quality and housekeeping

    * Support short-term planning, lookaheads and programme updates

    * Keep accurate daily records, including labour, plant, progress and materials

    * Coordinate deliveries and ensure materials are checked and recorded

    * Support QA, inspections, ITPs and handover documentation

    * Assist with resource planning and identify site requirements early

    * Liaise professionally with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams

    * Support the Site Agent / Project Manager with progress, cost awareness and site delivery

    Candidate Requirements

    * Proven experience as a General Foreman within civil engineering

    * Background delivering schemes such as highways, drainage, roads, public realm, structures, footpaths, cycleways or similar civils works

    * Strong understanding of site safety, sequencing, temporary works and quality standards

    * SMSTS or SSSTS

    * CSCS card

    * Full UK driving licence

    * Good communication and organisational skills

    * Comfortable working with site records, digital QA systems and basic IT

    * First Aid, NRSWA and Confined Space would be advantageous but are not essential

    The Opportunity

    This is a secure, long-term opportunity with a well-regarded regional contractor offering a strong pipeline of civil engineering work, varied projects and genuine scope for progression.

    The business is continuing to grow and can offer the right person the opportunity to develop further within the site management structure.

    Package

    * Competitive salary, dependent on experience

    * Car / allowance provision where applicable

    * Pension and standard company benefits

    * Regional workload with no regular lodging away

    * Long-term pipeline of civil engineering projects

    * Genuine progression opportunities

    * Stable, well-established main contractor environment
