How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Summary

The Quantity Surveyor will play a pivotal role in the commercial management of a major construction or infrastructure project, supporting the delivery of key financial, contractual, and commercial objectives. Working as part of an integrated project team, the role will provide commercial support throughout the project lifecycle, helping to maximise value, manage risk, and protect the company’s commercial interests.

This position offers the opportunity to work on a high-profile project, gaining exposure to complex contracts, stakeholder management, and strategic commercial decision-making while contributing to the successful delivery of a safe, efficient, and profitable project.

    Responsibilities

    *

Support the commercial management of a project or designated work package, ensuring commercial objectives are achieved in line with business and project requirements.

    *

Prepare and assist with applications for payment, valuations, cost reports, forecasts, cash flow projections, and final accounts.

    *

Monitor project costs, commitments, and financial performance, identifying risks, opportunities, and potential commercial impacts.

    *

Administer subcontract and supplier accounts from procurement through to final account agreement, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and company procedures.

    *

Assess subcontractor applications, variations, compensation events, claims, and commercial correspondence, providing timely recommendations and resolutions.

    *

Support change management processes, ensuring all commercial entitlements are identified, recorded, valued, and recovered where appropriate.

    *

Maintain accurate commercial records, documentation, and reporting systems to support effective project governance and decision-making.

    *

Develop a detailed understanding of project contracts, subcontract agreements, and commercial obligations to support robust contract administration.

    *

Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, planners, procurement teams, and operational colleagues to optimise project performance and deliver value.

    *

Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and other key stakeholders.

    *

Assist in identifying, managing, and mitigating commercial risks while maximising opportunities to improve project outcomes.

    *

Support commercial negotiations, dispute avoidance activities, and the resolution of contractual issues.

    *

Contribute to the preparation of commercial reports and presentations for project and senior management review.

    *

Promote collaborative working practices and contribute positively to project relationship management objectives.

    *

Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying efficiencies, sharing lessons learned, and promoting best practice.

    *

Assist with the development and mentoring of junior commercial team members where appropriate.

    *

Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, environmental, quality, and governance requirements.

    *

Protect and enhance the company’s commercial position through proactive contract and stakeholder management.

    *

Take ownership of personal development objectives and actively pursue opportunities to expand technical and commercial expertise.

    *

Undertake additional duties consistent with the role to support successful project delivery.

    Ideal Candidate

    *

Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline.

    *

Experience in a Quantity Surveyor, Assistant Quantity Surveyor, or similar commercial role within construction, civil engineering, or infrastructure projects.

    *

Strong understanding of commercial management principles, contract administration, and cost control processes.

    *

Knowledge of standard forms of contract, particularly NEC, JCT, or equivalent.

    *

Experience managing subcontract accounts, valuations, variations, and commercial reporting activities.

    *

Commercially astute with the ability to identify and manage risks, opportunities, and value-enhancing solutions.

    *

Good understanding of construction methodologies, project delivery processes, and contractual frameworks.

    *

Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.

    *

Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of building strong working relationships across project teams and supply chains.
