Cambridge | Mostly onsite
£45k - £55k + package
Are you a hands-on engineer who enjoys building, testing, and troubleshooting complex technology?
Do you thrive on solving problems across electronics, software, sensors, and hardware, rather than being confined to a single discipline?
Would you like the opportunity for international travel?
We're working with a Cambridge-based deep-tech company developing advanced precision instruments for challenging real-world applications. As part of a growing engineering team, you'll play a key role in turning cutting-edge R&D into working prototype systems, supporting everything from integration and testing through to field deployment.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys getting close to the hardware, diagnosing faults, improving system performance, and working across multiple engineering disciplines in a fast-moving environment.
What you'll be doing
Building, integrating, and testing prototype electronic and instrumentation systems
Diagnosing faults across sensors, electronics, embedded software, power systems, and control hardware
Supporting environmental and functional testing, including temperature, vibration, and pressure-based experiments
Working closely with electronics, firmware, software, mechanical, and physics teams to solve complex technical challenges
Preparing prototype systems for laboratory validation and field deployment
Reviewing test data, logs, and system outputs to identify root causes and drive improvements
Making modifications and improvements to prototype hardware to increase reliability and performance
Supporting field trials and real-world testing activities
What we're looking for
Hands-on experience building, testing, or troubleshooting electronic systems
Strong fault-finding and debugging skills
Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
Experience working with laboratory test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and data acquisition systems
Exposure to embedded systems, firmware, software-assisted debugging, or scripting
Comfortable working with evolving requirements and early-stage hardware
MEMS or sensor technologies (desirable)
Experience within robotics, aerospace, defence, geophysics, industrial sensing, or similar technology sectors (desirable)
Thermal or control systems (desirable)
Environmental testing (desirable)
Mechanical assembly and integration (desirable)
