How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Process Safety Engineer
    Location: Reading, UK

    Pay: £84,200 - £114,000 per annum

    Our Client, a leading player in the petrochemical and refining sector, is hiring for a reputable client involved in a major project to enhance the olefins value chain and refinery upgrades.

    What you'll be doing:
    * Provide technical leadership in process safety, ensuring design and engineering work aligns with safety standards and project objectives.
    * Collaborate with project teams and contractors to identify, assess, and mitigate safety risks throughout the pre-FEED and FEED stages.
    * Develop and review safety standards, philosophies, and specifications, ensuring compliance with industry and company safety requirements.
    * Lead or support safety risk assessments, including PHAs, HAZOPs, and consequence analyses, to ensure robust safety measures are in place.
    * Evaluate new technology proposals for safety and operational viability, engaging relevant discipline support as needed.
    * Oversee contractor implementation of safety and value improvement initiatives, ensuring design optimisations do not compromise safety.
    * Manage safety surveillance programs, ensuring design integrity and deviation management are maintained throughout project execution.
    * Support the development of safety documentation and participate in safety reviews for new and revamp facilities.

    What you'll bring:
    * Extensive experience in process safety within large-scale refining or chemical processing projects, with a strong background in safety risk assessment techniques.
    * Proven ability to lead safety reviews, develop safety standards, and influence design decisions in complex projects.
    * Hands-on knowledge of safety analysis tools such as hazard identification, consequence analysis, fire protection, and safety instrumented systems.
    * Experience working with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and stakeholders, preferably with exposure to the Middle East or KSA environments.
    * Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of articulating complex safety issues clearly and effectively.
    * Familiarity with safety standards and regulations relevant to the petrochemical and refining industries.

    Mandatory Skills:
    * Deep understanding of process safety principles and risk management techniques.
    * Ability to evaluate and influence safety design and engineering decisions.
    * Experience with safety studies such as HAZOPs, PHAs, and consequence modeling.

    Desired Skills:
    * Knowledge of large-scale module design and execution strategies.
    * Exposure to projects involving heavy oil upgrading, hydroprocessing, sour gas treatment, or ethylene cracking.
    * Familiarity with industry standards from companies like ExxonMobil or Saudi Aramco.

    Required Education:
    * Engineering degree in Chemical, Process, or Mechanical Engineering.

    Licences and Certifications:
    * Relevant safety and risk assessment certifications (e.g., HAZOP Leader, Safety Management).

    Experience:
    * Demonstrated leadership in process safety within onshore refining or chemical facilities.
    * Extensive involvement in technical safety evaluations, design reviews, and safety standards development.
