How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Fortress Recruit is working with a leading defence engineering organisation to appoint a Senior Electronics Design Engineer to their team in Poole.

This role provides the opportunity to play a key part in the design, development and validation of advanced electronic systems used in mission-critical defence applications.

    Key responsibilities include:

    * Designing and developing high-quality electronic hardware solutions in line with project and quality standards

    * Producing electrical schematics, PCB layouts, engineering documentation, test plans, and bills of materials

    * Supporting the full product lifecycle, from requirements capture and concept development through to certification and production

    * Working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure products are designed for manufacture, reliability, maintainability, and safety

    * Participating in prototyping, validation, testing, troubleshooting, and technical reviews throughout the development process

    * Liaising with customers, suppliers, and subcontractors to establish technical requirements and provide technical support

    * Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and driving engineering best practices across projects

    * Providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers within the team

    What we’re looking for:

    * Degree qualified in Electronics Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience

    * Minimum of 5 years’ experience in electronic hardware design and development

    * Strong knowledge of schematic capture and PCB design using CAD tools such as Altium

    * Experience with communication protocols including I2C, SPI, RS485, CAN, and Ethernet

    * Understanding of product safety, compliance requirements and product lifecycle management

    * Experience with risk management, RCCM methodologies, FMEA, and ALARP principles

    * Ability to produce and review comprehensive technical documentation

    * Eligibility for SC Clearance (5 years' UK residency with no visa or sponsorship requirement)

This is an excellent opportunity to join an engineering business developing innovative technology for demanding defence and maritime environments. You’ll have the chance to work on technically challenging projects, contribute to next-generation products and play a significant role in delivering solutions used globally.

This is a full-time, permanent role with competitive salary and flexible working. Based on-site in Poole, Dorset, there may also be occasional travel across the UK and overseas to support engineering activities, customer engagements and project requirements.
