How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.

    Job description

    About the Role

    The post holder will provide clinical leadership and governance across Sexual Offence Examiner services, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality and nationally compliant forensic care.

    Acting as Medical Lead Doctor, you will support service development, clinical oversight and governance activity in collaboration with the Clinical Service Manager, contributing to continuous improvement and the professional development of Sexual Offence Examiners and Crisis Support Workers.

    The role includes the provision of acute forensic examinations for adult and paediatric victims of rape and sexual assault in line with organisational policy and national guidance, including Faculty of Forensic & Legal Medicine (FFLM) and General Medical Council (GMC) standards.

    You will contribute to the clinical management and development of services in accordance with NHS contractual requirements and Forensic Science Regulator (FSR) standards and participate in rota cover for forensic examinations.

    Hours: 28hrs per week

    Key Responsibilities

    Provide clinical governance across SARC services, maintaining national quality standards and supporting quality improvement and UKAS accreditation in line with FSR guidance.

    Support clinical leadership, mentorship, training and supervision of Sexual Offence Examiners (SOEs) and Doctors, including induction, competency assessment, peer review and preparation for FFLM examinations.

    Provide clinical advice and support to SOEs, including statement review, case reviews and telephone support.

    Investigate clinical incidents and complaints, undertake audits, and contribute to the development of clinical policies, procedures, innovation and research.

    Work collaboratively with key stakeholders, paediatric services, Crisis Workers, Police Officers and partner agencies to support service delivery and referral pathways.

    Participate in case strategy meetings, Clinical Governance meetings, commissioner meetings and multi-agency partnership working.

    Carry out forensic examinations for adult and paediatric victims of rape and sexual assault in accordance with professional guidelines.

    Complete all required documentation, witness statements, safeguarding referrals and child protection reports, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with organisational policies and data protection requirements.

    Attend court as a professional witness when required.

    Participate in rota cover for forensic examinations, Employee Development Reviews (EDR) and undertake any reasonable request from the Line Manager.

    About You

    Essential

    * GMC registration with licence to practise.

    * Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Sexual Offence Examiner.

    * Experience in forensic examination and medical aftercare of sexual assault complainants.

    * Experience of clinical governance processes.

    * Leadership and management experience.

    * Teaching, training and presentation experience.

    * Working towards or holding Membership or Licentiate of the Faculty of Forensic & Legal Medicine (MFFLM/LFFLM) or Sexual Offence Medicine (SOMc or SOM A&C) qualifications.

    * Enhanced DBS disclosure.

    * Medical indemnity cover (minimum £10 million).

    * Full driving licence and access to own transport.

    * Level 3 safeguarding experience (adults and/or children).

    * Strong communication and documentation skills.

    * Ability to lead, train and work collaboratively

    * Discretion, confidentiality and integrity.

    Desirable

    * Paediatric Sexual Offence Medicine experience.

    * Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH) or equivalent paediatric experience.

    * Educational supervision and appraisal experience.

    * Root cause analysis training.
