How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Planning Engineer – Major Civil Engineering Projects

    Ready to play a key role in delivering some of the UK’s most complex civil engineering and infrastructure projects?

    We’re looking for a Senior Planning Engineer to join a growing team to help shape major infrastructure schemes from tender stage through to delivery.

    This isn’t simply a planning role. It’s an opportunity to influence how major projects are won, designed, sequenced, and delivered — combining practical site knowledge with strategic thinking to create smarter, safer, and more efficient solutions.

    If you enjoy solving complex engineering challenges, influencing project outcomes, and working closely with technical and operational teams, this could be your next move.

    What You’ll Be Doing

    You’ll combine practical construction experience with planning expertise to:

    * Analyse tender documentation and develop robust, buildable delivery strategies

    * Challenge conventional construction approaches and identify smarter, more efficient solutions

    * Work closely with technical, operational, and bid teams to ensure programmes are practical and deliverable

    * Develop clear, high-quality programmes that strengthen bids and improve project outcomes

    * Provide expertise around sequencing, logistics, methodologies, and construction planning

    * Support problem solving across major civil engineering projects and infrastructure schemes

    * Stay ahead of industry trends, best practices, and legislative changes to drive continuous improvement

    What We’re Looking For

    We’re looking for someone who combines hands-on infrastructure experience with forward-thinking planning capability:

    * Strong background within civil engineering or infrastructure project delivery

    * Previous site-based construction experience with a practical understanding of project delivery

    * HNC (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering as a minimum

    * Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across multiple disciplines

    * Experience of planning software such as Asta or Microsoft Project (training available)

    * A proactive mindset with the confidence to challenge existing approaches and improve outcomes

    * Passion for infrastructure, engineering, and delivering complex projects

    Why Join?

    This is an opportunity to join a collaborative, forward-thinking business where planning plays a critical role in project success.

    You’ll benefit from:

    * 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (with the option to buy more)

    * Company pension with matched contributions up to 8%

    * Life assurance

    * Flexible benefits platform

    * Free on-site parking

    * Hybrid working

    Ready to make an impact?

    Join a team where your expertise influences how major infrastructure projects are delivered — and where your career can grow alongside ambitious, exciting projects.

    Applicants must have the right to live and work in the UK
