A growing international steel trading business based in London is looking to hire a Metals Trade Operator to join its commercial operations team.
This role will suit someone with previous experience in steel or metals trading who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and wants to build further exposure across international trade execution, shipping, logistics, and commercial activities.
The successful candidate will work closely with traders, suppliers, customers, and logistics providers to ensure the smooth execution of international steel trades from contract through to delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain trade, shipping, operational, and compliance documentation
- Monitor shipment schedules, vessel movements, and delivery timelines
- Coordinate with suppliers, customers, freight providers, and internal stakeholders regarding operational matters
- Prepare, issue, and administer sales contracts and assist with supplier contract reviews
- Review supplier, freight, and logistics invoices prior to payment processing
- Provide proactive updates to customers regarding shipment status and ETAs
- Support accurate payment instructions and maintain clear operational audit trails
- Assist commercial teams with market monitoring, customer support, and relationship management activities
- Develop strong knowledge of steel products, market flows, and pricing dynamics
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience within steel trading is essential
- Background in trade support, operations, logistics, or commercial support within metals or commodities preferred
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities within a deadline-driven environment
- Confident communication skills with a professional and customer-focused approach
- Commercially minded with a genuine interest in steel and international trade
- Strong Excel skills and general systems proficiency
