How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    The Vacancy

    At George Baker Shipping, we specialise in comprehensive transport services tailored to meet your specific needs. As a leading logistics company, our dedicated team of freight brokers expertly manages shipping and freight operations, ensuring efficient, reliable, and timely delivery.

    We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Transport Junior to join our UK transport operation. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to begin a career within the transport and logistics industry, gaining hands-on experience while supporting our transport planning team.

    Key Responsibilities & Duties:

    • Process customer job requests accurately and efficiently.
    • Add and manage transport jobs within the company’s Transport Management System (TMS).
    • Use port and customer systems to make vehicle bookings.
    • Monitor deliveries using vehicle tracking systems and provide updates where required.
    • Contact shipping lines to obtain empty container return details.
    • Send job information and instructions to drivers and assist with any queries.
    • Communicate effectively with customers regarding booking issues, delivery updates, and delays.
    • Support senior transport planners with day-to-day operational duties.
    • Maintain accurate records and ensure all transport information is updated correctly.
    • Work closely with drivers, customers and internal departments to ensure smooth operations.

    Skills & Experience:

    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
    • A willingness to learn and a strong work ethic.
    • Basic IT literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
    • A keen interest in UK container and curtainside transport (desirable).
    • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
    • Positive and professional attitude in a fast-paced environment.
