How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

We are seeking a Research Scientist with experience in the R&D of biosensing system technologies, and a strong background in materials, to join a highly specialised team developing next-generation implantable biosensing technology.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a scientifically rigorous and practically minded researcher to contribute directly to the development of novel implantable monitoring technologies within an innovative deep-tech healthcare company. Working as part of a multidisciplinary R&D team, you will support the theoretical modelling, simulation, and experimental characterisation of system technologies spanning materials, mechanical systems, electronics, software, and biological interfaces. The role offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging research problems with real scientific depth, contributing directly to the development of emerging healthcare technologies with significant long-term potential.

    The Company

Our client is an innovative healthcare technology company developing novel sensing platforms designed to generate continuous biological insight in an area of medicine that remains poorly understood. Their work combines advanced engineering, sensing technologies, materials science, embedded systems, and human physiology.

This is a highly collaborative R&D environment where scientists and engineers work across traditional discipline boundaries to investigate complex system-level challenges. The successful candidate will contribute directly to modelling activities, experimental investigations, prototype development, and technology evaluation work supporting the evolution of future platform technologies.

This opportunity would suit someone who is intellectually curious, scientifically rigorous, and motivated by the opportunity to contribute to ambitious research within a technically strong and collaborative team environment.

    The Role

As a Research Scientist, you will contribute to technical investigations into novel device and system technologies for implantable monitoring systems, combining modelling, experimental research, and hands-on laboratory work to evaluate future technology capabilities.

    Responsibilities are likely to include:

    • Supporting the modelling and simulation of materials, mechanical behaviour, and system-level device features
    • Contributing to the development of mechanical components, PCB-based systems, fixtures, and research test rigs
    • Experimental design, system verification testing, and performance characterisation
    • Scientific programming and data analysis using tools such as Python
    • Interpretation and presentation of evidence-based research findings
    • Production of scientific reports and technical documentation
    • Supporting invention disclosures and intellectual property generation
    • Development of proof-of-concept research prototypes
    • Contributing to multidisciplinary research activities spanning engineering, materials, electronics, and biological systems

The successful candidate will be expected to apply strong scientific rigour, demonstrate structured problem-solving capability, and contribute effectively within a multidisciplinary research environment.

To be considered for this role of Research Scientist -Systems , you will likely have:

    Knowledge & Experience

    • A PhD, or equivalent industry experience, in Engineering, Physical Sciences, or a related technical discipline
    • Experience contributing to complex or multidisciplinary research projects
    • A track record of scientific contribution through publications, patents, or technical project work
    • Familiarity with firmware scripting or scientific programming tools such as Python
    • Demonstrable knowledge of finite element modelling, tools, and techniques
    • Experience designing and conducting robust experimental investigations
    • Experience analysing data and drawing evidence-based conclusions

    Technical Experience

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience or knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

    • Biosensing system technologies
    • Materials
    • Mechanical systems
    • Experimental system development
    • PCB development or electronics integration
    • Test rig or fixture development
    • Verification or validation testing
    • Implantable device technologies
    • Electronics miniaturisation
    • Biocompatible materials
    • Encapsulation technologies
    • Working with biological fluids
    • Physiology
    • Wireless data systems

    Skills & Approach

    • A naturally curious and research-driven mindset
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with an ability to approach complex challenges from first principles
    • Strong experimental design and laboratory practice capability
    • Creativity and technical originality, with an interest in solving challenging multidisciplinary problems
    • The ability to organise and prioritise your own work effectively
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary technical team.

    Additional Experience (Desirable)

    • Experience working within fast-paced R&D environments, start-ups, or research spinouts
    • Familiarity with implantable or active medical device technologies

    The Opportunity

This role offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging problems within a scientifically rigorous and highly collaborative environment. For the right individual, it provides substantial opportunity for technical development, exposure to multidisciplinary R&D, and the chance to contribute to the evolution of an emerging healthcare technology platform.
