How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Overview of the Assistant Principal Childcare Lawyer position

    We’re currently looking to appoint an Assistant Principal Childcare Lawyer to join a welcoming and well-established legal team within a Local Authority. This permanent position is suited to an experienced local government Childcare Lawyer who is ready to take on a leadership role. The successful candidate will support the management of the team while handling a complex and varied caseload.


    The role offers a hybrid working arrangement, with an expectation of attending the office two days per week alongside court commitments. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Childcare Lawyer to progress into a managerial position within a knowledgeable and supportive team environment.


    Key responsibilities of the Assistant Principal Childcare Lawyer

    • To carry a varied caseload of childcare matters including NAI, sexual abuse cases, multi-issue cases and complex care proceedings
    • Working closely with the two other Assistant Principal Lawyers and the Principal Lawyer to manage the team
    • To advise on high profile and high risk matters, where required
    • To assist the Principal Lawyer with case allocation, court metrics, training of the team and client department and general management of the team


    Experience/qualifications required for the Assistant Principal Childcare Lawyer position

    • You must be a qualified Lawyer (Solicitor, Barrister or CILEX with Advocacy Rights) with a current practicing certificate
    • Able to work on a hybrid basis with attendance at two offices when required as well as attending court when necessary
    • Extensive experience in childcare law within a local authority setting is essential
    • Experience of mentoring or supervising staff is beneficial
    • Advocacy experience is highly beneficial
