How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    About us

A leading UK infrastructure and utilities business is seeking an experienced Employment Solicitor to join its London legal team. Operating across a highly regulated environment, the organisation plays a vital role in delivering essential services to homes and businesses throughout the UK. With a strong focus on collaboration, integrity and continuous improvement, the business offers a dynamic and supportive environment where legal professionals can make a tangible commercial impact.

The successful candidate will be joining a well-established and collaborative legal function of more than 20 legal professionals, working closely with senior stakeholders across the wider business.

    The role

This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded Employment Solicitor to join a well-established in-house legal function in a newly created position. Working closely with senior stakeholders across the Legal and People teams, the successful candidate will provide strategic and day-to-day employment law advice across both contentious and non-contentious matters.

The role offers broad exposure across a complex organisation and would suit an experienced employment lawyer who enjoys balancing legal risk with pragmatic commercial solutions.

    Key responsibilities

    • Advising on a full range of employment law matters including disciplinary and grievance processes, dismissals, redundancies, reorganisations, discrimination, whistleblowing and restrictive covenants
    • Managing Employment Tribunal claims, ACAS conciliations and settlement negotiations
    • Supporting the business on Trade Union and wider employee relations matters
    • Drafting, reviewing and updating employment contracts, policies, procedures and precedent documents
    • Providing legal updates and training to internal stakeholders on developments in employment law
    • Supporting compliance with governance obligations, statutory duties and regulatory requirements
    • Building strong relationships across the business and managing external legal panel relationships
    • Supporting and mentoring more junior team members where appropriate
    • Contributing to the continued growth and reputation of the legal function

    About you

    • Qualified Solicitor in England, Wales or Scotland with approximately 5–8 years’ PQE in employment law
    • Strong experience advising large employer clients on both contentious and non-contentious employment matters
    • Proven ability to deliver commercially focused and pragmatic legal advice to senior stakeholders
    • Excellent technical, negotiation and communication skills
    • Proactive, solutions-focused and confident operating autonomously within a fast-paced environment
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build trusted relationships across the business
    • Experience mentoring or developing junior colleagues would be advantageous
    • Prior in-house or regulated sector experience is beneficial but not essential

    What’s in it for you

    • Hybrid working arrangement based in central London
    • Competitive salary and benefits package
    • Enhanced pension scheme
    • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay
    • Life assurance
    • Holiday Plus scheme
    • Cycle2Work scheme
    • Opportunity to join a collaborative and highly respected in-house legal team in a newly created role
    • Exposure to strategic, business-critical employment matters within a large and complex organisation
