A leading UK infrastructure and utilities business is seeking an experienced Employment Solicitor to join its London legal team. Operating across a highly regulated environment, the organisation plays a vital role in delivering essential services to homes and businesses throughout the UK. The successful candidate will be joining a well-established and collaborative legal function of more than 20 legal professionals, working closely with senior stakeholders across the wider business.
The role
This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded Employment Solicitor to join a well-established in-house legal function in a newly created position. Working closely with senior stakeholders across the Legal and People teams, the successful candidate will provide strategic and day-to-day employment law advice across both contentious and non-contentious matters.
The role offers broad exposure across a complex organisation and would suit an experienced employment lawyer who enjoys balancing legal risk with pragmatic commercial solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Advising on a full range of employment law matters including disciplinary and grievance processes, dismissals, redundancies, reorganisations, discrimination, whistleblowing and restrictive covenants
- Managing Employment Tribunal claims, ACAS conciliations and settlement negotiations
- Supporting the business on Trade Union and wider employee relations matters
- Drafting, reviewing and updating employment contracts, policies, procedures and precedent documents
- Providing legal updates and training to internal stakeholders on developments in employment law
- Supporting compliance with governance obligations, statutory duties and regulatory requirements
- Building strong relationships across the business and managing external legal panel relationships
- Supporting and mentoring more junior team members where appropriate
- Contributing to the continued growth and reputation of the legal function
About you
- Qualified Solicitor in England, Wales or Scotland with approximately 5–8 years’ PQE in employment law
- Strong experience advising large employer clients on both contentious and non-contentious employment matters
- Proven ability to deliver commercially focused and pragmatic legal advice to senior stakeholders
- Excellent technical, negotiation and communication skills
- Proactive, solutions-focused and confident operating autonomously within a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build trusted relationships across the business
- Experience mentoring or developing junior colleagues would be advantageous
- Prior in-house or regulated sector experience is beneficial but not essential
