How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

We are seeking an exceptional FPGA / DSP Firmware Engineer with strong experience across Defence systems, DSP FPGA development, VHDL, cryptography/encryption, and advanced mathematical algorithm development.

This role is particularly suited to engineers with expertise in:

    • Defence or secure technology environments
    • FPGA/DSP development using VHDL
    • Cryptography and encryption systems
    • Strong mathematical backgrounds including algebra and applied kinematics
    • Complex real-time algorithm development and signal processing

You will join a highly capable engineering team working on sophisticated FPGA-based technology used within demanding and technically challenging environments.

    Key Responsibilities

    • FPGA firmware development using VHDL/Verilog
    • Design and implementation of complex DSP processing algorithms
    • Development of cryptographic, encryption and mathematically intensive processing functions
    • FPGA verification, simulation and hardware bring-up
    • Contribute to architecture, implementation and system integration activities
    • Collaborate across firmware, hardware and systems engineering teams
    • Support automated testing and validation environments using Python and related tooling
    • Contribute to technical leadership and engineering best practice

    Required Experience

    • Strong commercial FPGA development experience using VHDL and/or Verilog
    • Previous experience within Defence or highly secure engineering environments
    • Strong DSP and FPGA processing experience
    • Strong mathematical background including algebra, applied mathematics, kinematics or advanced algorithm development
    • Understanding of cryptography, encryption or secure data processing systems
    • Experience developing high-performance or real-time embedded systems
    • Experience with FPGA verification and test methodologies
    • Comfortable working within Agile engineering environments using Git/JIRA/Confluence

    Desirable Skills

    • MATLAB-based algorithm or DSP development
    • Python scripting or automation experience
    • Hardware debugging or board-level bring-up experience
    • Experience mentoring or technically leading engineering teams

    Ideal Candidate

The successful engineer will be highly technical, mathematically capable and comfortable solving extremely complex engineering problems. You should enjoy working across FPGA firmware, DSP and advanced algorithm development within Defence or secure technology environments.

This is an opportunity to work on genuinely advanced FPGA and DSP technology within a strong engineering team delivering cutting-edge projects.

The opportunity offers either a highly competitive salary or strong contract rate for the right individual. Majority remote working is available with occasional visits to London.

Please reply with an up-to-date CV if this could be of interest.
