How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior HV Design Engineer

    Birmingham – Hybrid
    £80,000 – £100,000

    VIQU is working with a leading engineering organisation delivering high-voltage infrastructure and electrical design solutions across the energy sector. They are seeking an experiencedSenior HV Design Engineer to play a key role in coordinating and assuring the delivery of HV electrical design projects while supporting the growth of an in-house engineering capability.

    Key Responsibilities of the Senior HV Design Engineer role:

    Lead and coordinate HV electrical design activities across substation and infrastructure projects
    Manage interfaces between Primary, Protection & Control and secondary electrical disciplines
    Coordinate internal teams, subcontract designers and external consultants to ensure integrated delivery
    Support technical assurance, design reviews and sign-off activities in line with NERS and industry standards
    Identify and mitigate technical and delivery risks across projects
    Act as a key technical interface with clients, DNOs, Tier 1 contractors and stakeholders
    Support bids, tenders and early-stage project delivery strategies
    Contribute to the development of internal electrical design capability and mentor future team members
    Key Requirements of the Senior HV Design Engineer role:

    Significant experience within HV electrical design, particularly substations and related infrastructure
    Background in either Primary Design or Protection & Control (P&C) leadership
    Experience working with DNOs, Tier 1 contractors or engineering consultancies
    Knowledge of NERS standards and regulated engineering environments
    Experience reviewing and approving electrical engineering outputs
    Strong stakeholder management and multidisciplinary coordination skills
    Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
    Chartered Engineer status (CEng/IEng) preferred or equivalent experience
