How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    About The Role

As a Service Engineer you will work from a home office and cover the UK / Ireland. Responsibilities include:

    * Occasional trips to support the European service team when needed. (1 trip per quarter).

    * Due to the complex nature of the equipment and the potential travel time, you will typically attend 2-3 customer sites per week. Any travel is conducted Mon-Fri and therefore doesn’t encroach onto the weekends.

    * Operating from a home office and visiting customers to complete new equipment installations, commissioning and user training. Some of the more advanced equipment can take up to 2 days to complete an installation and also 2 days for planned preventative maintenance.

    * Visiting major industry and academia clients (universities).

    * Liaising with customers directly to schedule the service visit.

    * Decommissioning equipment for site relocations.

    * Conducting routine service and calibration work, alongside more reactive maintenance, including fault finding and problem resolution.

    * Working on equipment including both hardware and software ranging from £60K to £250K in value.

    * Completing service report visits.

    * Handling service tickets, gaining the equipment log file and using TeamViewer where possible to gain remote access to their equipment.

    * If on the rare occasion you aren’t able to resolve the issue on customer site, you will organise for the equipment to be sent to my clients’ service centre and attend to do further investigation.

    About You

The successful candidate will possess at least 2-3 years of service engineering experience, gained working on complex equipment, which could include but not limited to, Analytical Instruments, High Vacuum Equipment, Optical Microscopes, Laser Deposition, Sample Preparation, Electron Microscopes, Spectrometers, X-Ray CT Systems, MRI Scanners, Particle Accelerators, Particle Analysis instruments or similar.

A degree level education is beneficial, but not essential.

It is, however, essential you have a logical and methodical approach to finding faults, an open communication style, and be comfortable spending on average of 2-3 nights per week away from home.

A UK driving license is essential, as is the rights to work in the UK. My client doesn’t offer sponsorship.
