How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

New year, new job. Are you a Civil Engineer with strong Section 278 and highway design experience looking to take on technically varied projects in Birmingham? This is an excellent opportunity for a Civil Engineer to join a respected independent consultancy delivering high-quality highway and infrastructure schemes.

You will be based in the Birmingham office, working closely with a regional highways team while contributing to projects across the Midlands and further afield. The workload spans local highway improvements through to major residential and commercial developments, supporting clients wherever their schemes are located while remaining anchored to a strong local base.

    The role

As a Civil Engineer, you will play a key role in the delivery of highway and infrastructure design projects.

    Key responsibilities include:

    * Leading or supporting the design of S278 highway schemes
    * Producing drawings and models using AutoCAD, Civil 3D and junction design software
    * Delivering designs in line with DMRB, Manual for Streets and LTN 1/20
    * Liaising with local authorities, National Highways and developers
    * Supporting drainage design and adoption processes for S38 and S104
    * Mentoring junior engineers and supporting technical development
    * Assisting with fee proposals, bids and technical reporting

    About you

This role suits a capable Civil Engineer with highways experience.

    You will ideally have:

    * A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
    * Experience delivering S278 access junction designs
    * Familiarity with local authority and National Highways processes
    * Strong AutoCAD skills with exposure to 3D modelling and drainage design
    * Good communication and report-writing ability
