We are currently looking for a Youth Development Worker to join our vibrant and dedicated team in Becontree, Greater London. This is an incredible opportunity to empower young people, foster community resilience, and create positive change across East London.
Hours of Work: Full-time position working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, between 8:30 am and 6:30 pm, including a lunch break. Occasional residentials may be required to support community initiatives.
As a Youth Development Worker, you will mentor and support young people who are at risk of exclusion, facing mental health challenges, or involved in serious youth violence. Your role involves delivering personalised 1-2-1 support, organising engaging after-school activities, holiday programmes, and residential trips that inspire and develop essential life skills. You will play a vital part in helping young people unlock their potential and build brighter futures.
Youth Development Worker Requirements:
Minimum of two years’ experience working with challenging young people in a paid full-time capacity
Experience working with young people with borderline or undiagnosed mental health issues OR those involved in serious youth violence
Proven ability to manage safeguarding incidents effectively
Experience in detached youth work or similar community outreach roles
Ability to deliver positive activities and organise youth clubs or programmes
Minimum Level 3 youth work qualification or equivalent
Level 2 qualification in English & Maths
Strong relationship-building skills within secondary school environments and with staff
Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently with initiative
Proficiency in managing young people in one-to-one and group settings
Empathy and the ability to relate to disaffected young people, encouraging their development
