How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Head of Physical Education

    Prospero Teaching are working closely with a Good Ofsted rated mixed secondary school in Basingstoke, Hampshire, who are looking to appoint a Head of Physical Education to join them from September.

    The school have a fantastic opportunity for an exceptional and inspiring PE specialist to lead a well-established department in a school where students are well behaved and engaged. This role would suit an experienced teacher or current middle leader looking to take the next step in their career.

    The school believes strongly in the development of the whole person, both socially and academically, and prides itself on celebrating individual pupil success and effort. They are therefore looking for a leader who is passionate about sport, participation, and student well being and who can contribute positively to the wider life of the school.

    Applications are welcome from experienced teachers on the Main Pay Scale or Upper Pay Scale, with a TLR available for the right candidate.

    CONTRACT DETAILS

    Location - Basingstoke, Hampshire
    Position - Head of Physical Education
    Contract or position start date - September 2026
    Duration / Likely Duration - Permanent
    Full time/part time - Full time
    Minimum rate of pay - MPS / UPS (dependent on experience) + TLR
    Hours - 8:15 am - 4.00pm, plus parent's evenings and leadership/department meetings

    EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS

    QTS or equivalent
    A strong background teaching PE in UK secondary schools
    Previous leadership experience or clear evidence of leadership potential
    Up to date Safeguarding training issued in the last year

    TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS ROLE THROUGH PROSPERO TEACHING, YOU MUST:

    Hold Right to Work in the UK
    Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
    Provide two professional child-related references covering the last 2 years
