How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Design Engineer
    Ferndown
    Design Engineer salary: £40,000 – £60,000

    Please note: only applicants with the full-time, permanent right to work in the UK will be considered.

    Design Engineer Overview:

    Deliver compliant design output from early concept through to technical release and site support
    Produce accurate Revit and AutoCAD drawing packs, details, schedules and material lists
    Coordinate technical input with internal teams and external specialists to reduce risk and rework
    Own drawing quality, standards and documentation control across bids and live projects
    Step up into package/project lead responsibility and mentor others where required 

    This Design Engineer role reports to the Design Director and sits within an engineered product environment delivering customer-led projects from enquiry through to completion. The Design Engineer will take ownership of design output from early layouts through detailed technical release and site-stage support, ensuring designs meet relevant UK regulations, standards and client requirements. The Design Engineer will work closely with internal stakeholders across delivery and supply functions, and with external parties where needed, to keep technical information accurate, coordinated and issued to programme.

    Day-to-day responsibilities of a Design Engineer

    Produce high-quality, technically accurate design solutions for enquiries and orders as a Design Engineer
    Develop and define technical detailing with the internal team and external specialists to ensure compliance and minimise risk
    Create and maintain Revit models and AutoCAD drawings to an approval-ready standard and agreed deadlines
    Produce sectional, general arrangement and technical detail information, including schedules and material lists
    Support work from early concept through detailed technical release and site-stage support as a Design Engineer
    Interface with internal teams to align priorities, resolve technical queries and keep deliverables controlled
    Liaise with customers and external technical parties where required to progress approvals and technical alignment
    Ensure designs are supported by appropriate technical substantiation where required (engineering calculations and specialist sign-off)
    Maintain working knowledge of relevant UK legislation and standards and incorporate into design output
    Consider and coordinate key performance requirements where applicable (fire protection, thermal, acoustic, structural, air tightness and energy performance)
    Develop understanding of M&E constraints and coordinate design accordingly
    Work within the business quality process framework and support continuous improvement of design standards and documentation
    Where required, take a lead role on a package/bid and support or mentor other designers within the Design Engineer functionWhat they’re looking for - Design Engineer

    Experience producing regulated UK design output within a technical design environment as a Design Engineer
    Strong capability in Revit and AutoCAD, able to produce accurate drawings independently and at pace
    Solid understanding of UK Building Regulations and practical compliance requirements
    Working awareness of CDM and the impact of designer responsibilities on deliverables
    Comfortable managing multiple priorities, coordinating stakeholders and keeping outputs controlled
    Calm, resilient and detail-focused, with a professional client-facing approach
    Degree-level qualification helpful, but HNC/HND (or equivalent track record) is equally valid for a Design EngineerDesirable - Design Engineer

    Experience working with structured technical packages and supplier constraints
    Practical understanding of section selection, detailing standards and specification-led design delivery
    Basic surveying awareness and confidence supporting site-stage queries
