How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Senior Civil Engineer - Hemel Hempstead

I'm currently working with a well-established, multi-disciplinary consultancy that's continuing to strengthen its civil engineering capability in the South East.

This is a genuinely exciting opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer who wants to take ownership of projects, influence delivery, and play a key role in the growth of a high-performing team.

The business operates across residential, commercial and mixed-use developments, offering exposure to the full project lifecycle - from early feasibility through to detailed design and technical approvals. You'll be working in a collaborative environment alongside planners, environmental specialists and other design professionals.

    The Role:

You'll take the lead on drainage and infrastructure design, managing projects from concept through to approval. This includes producing Flood Risk Assessments, drainage strategies and detailed design packages, while also supporting and mentoring junior engineers.

You'll also be client-facing, liaising with local authorities, water companies and wider project teams, so strong communication skills are key.
    Key Responsibilities:

Lead the design and delivery of drainage and infrastructure schemes
Prepare Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies
    Deliver S104/S38/S278 approvals
Coordinate with clients, authorities and internal teams
    Mentor and support junior engineers
Contribute to programme management and technical quality
    About You:

Degree qualified in Civil Engineering (or similar)
Strong UK consultancy experience, particularly in drainage and infrastructure
Confident using AutoCAD and drainage software (e.g. InfoDrainage/MicroDrainage)
Experience managing projects and client relationships
Working towards Chartership or already achieved
    What's on Offer:

Flexible working arrangements with a strong emphasis on work-life balance
Clear progression pathway with support towards Chartership
    Ongoing professional development and training
Exposure to a diverse and interesting project portfolio
    Supportive, collaborative team environment
Competitive benefits package including pension and holiday allowance
What stands out here is the level of responsibility you'll be given, alongside clear progression opportunities as the team continues to grow. It's a role suited to someone who wants to step up, take ownership, and have a real impact on project delivery.

If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, feel free to get in touch for a confidential conversation.
