How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Jackson Hogg have exclusively partnered with a specialist manufacturing business in the Hitchin area, on a Quality Engineer position, reporting to the Head of Quality.

    The Quality Engineer will play a key part within the Quality team, ensuring that the specialist products meet the highest standards of quality, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

    Quality Engineer Responsibilities

    * Investigate product non‑conformances using structured methodologies (5‑Why, 8D, Ishikawa), driving robust corrective and preventive actions.

    * Support Material Review Board activities—inspecting, assessing and dispositioning non‑conforming parts and assemblies.

    * Work closely with Production and Engineering to ensure inspection, calibration and verification processes remain capable and compliant.

    * Perform supplier evaluations, audits, and ongoing performance reviews to ensure adherence to specifications, certifications and quality expectations.

    * Lead supplier‑related problem‑solving activities, ensuring timely and effective containment, root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.

    * Monitor supplier KPIs (delivery performance, PPM, right‑first‑time), identify trends and drive targeted improvement initiatives.

    * Maintain documentation and processes aligned to the business' Integrated Management System (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ATEX 80079‑34, CAA Part 21).

    * Conduct internal audits and support external audit readiness across Quality, Engineering, Operations and Supply Chain.

    * Participate in PFMEA, control plan maintenance and risk activities for new products and design changes.

    * Analyse quality data (scrap, rework, defects, supplier metrics) to identify risks and opportunities.

    * Drive continuous improvement projects aimed at reducing variability, improving reliability, and enhancing product and process capability.

    * Provide clear, concise reporting to Quality, Engineering and Operations leadership.

    Quality Engineer Requirements

    * Experience in a quality engineering or supplier quality engineering role within electronics, electro‑mechanical, safety‑critical or highly regulated manufacturing environments.

    * Practical experience with supplier quality tools—auditing, inspection methodologies, PPAP‑style reviews, NCR management and supplier corrective actions.

    * Strong problem‑solving capability using recognised quality tools (8D, 5‑Why, PFMEA, SPC).

    * Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, and test documentation.

    * Knowledge of ISO 9001‑based quality management systems; awareness of ATEX / hazardous‑area products is beneficial.

    * Comfortable working in a hands‑on manufacturing environment and collaborating closely with production and engineering teams.

    Benefits Include

    * 25 days Annual Leave plus bank holidays

    * Company bonus Scheme

    * Pension plan

    * BUPA health insurance

    * Simply Health cash plan
