How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    World Class Defence Organisation based in Bristol (the role will be split between working from home and onsite) is currently looking to recruit a Human Factors Engineer subcontractor on an initial 6 month contract.
     
    Rate: £90.00 per hour
    Overtime Rate: Hours worked over the standard 37 hours per week, will be paid at ‘time and a quarter’
    Location: Bristol
    Hybrid / Remote working: circa 3 days onsite
    Duration: 6 Months with very likely extension. Contracts are often ongoing and long-term thereafter. 
    IR35 status: Inside IR35 (Umbrella)

    Human Factors Engineer Job Description:

    The military operating environment is becoming more complex and new technological capabilities are required to ensure operational advantage. We believe that integration of Human Factors is critical to the development of safe, usable and effective weapon systems. The Human Factors department is responsible for ensuring that user capability is fully considered in the weapon system, from initial concept design through development and delivery to the customer.
    You will be joining a team recognised by UK MoD as an industry leader in the delivery of Human Factors Integration where you be able to influence systems as they develop from concept to delivery and gain first-hand experience of working with military users.
    Our team work transversally across projects through the development lifecycle providing capabilities to users across Land, Air and Sea with ongoing projects across Battlefield, Surface Attack, Deep Strike & Air Defence domains.

    Responsibilities:

    In your role you will be part of the Human Factors team defining the HF elements of an anti-ship  weapon system and its mission planning and control solution against a Naval Surface Warfare requirement.
    We are looking for a highly capable and enthusiastic Human Factors Engineer to support definition of the Human Computer Interface for the mission planning and control solution including conduct of a structure programme of user engagement. Responsibilities include:

    Conduct of Human Factors Integration through the development lifecycle providing progressive assurance to the customer as per Def Stan 00-251
    Analysis and assessment of the role of the operator within the weapon system considering weapon system mission planning and control.
    Definition and maintenance of HCI Design and Specification artefacts.
    Definition and conduct of user engagement activities to inform design as part of a Human Centred Design approach.
    Supporting and working closely with the wider systems teams including provision of briefings where required.
    Co-ordinating across team to provide inputs to demonstrator requirements and organising and conducting user engagement events.
    Skillset/experience required:

    Member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF)
    Experience of the application of Human Factors in a Defence context including understanding of Defence Standards (e.g. 00-251).
    Experience of Human Computer Interface Design, Specification and prototyping with tools such as AxureRP.
    Conduct of core HF activities including task analysis, requirements development and user engagement as part of a Human Centred Design approach.
    Experience of working in multi-disciplinary engineering teams particularly with systems and software engineering.
    Understanding of Model Based Systems Engineering and SysML notation.
    Knowledge of the Naval domain and understanding of mission planning and control systems desirable
