How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    About the School

We are a high-achieving, oversubscribed Church of England secondary school with a strong reputation for academic excellence, outstanding pastoral care, and a values-led ethos rooted in Christian principles. We are committed to nurturing thoughtful, confident and socially aware young people within a supportive and aspirational environment.

Our Sixth Form curriculum encourages students to engage critically with contemporary issues, develop independent thinking, and prepare successfully for higher education and future careers. Sociology is a valued and growing subject area, enabling students to explore society, culture, identity, and social change through rigorous academic study.

    The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Teacher of Sociology to join our Social Sciences/Humanities team from September 2026.

The successful candidate will deliver engaging and academically challenging Sociology lessons, primarily at Key Stage 5, with the possibility of contributing to related Humanities or Social Science subjects depending on experience. You will inspire students to think critically about the world around them and develop strong analytical, evaluative, and research skills.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative department committed to high academic standards and student success.

    Key Responsibilities

Teach Sociology at Key Stage 5 (KS4 Sociology desirable where applicable)
Deliver engaging and well-structured lessons aligned with examination specifications
Develop students’ understanding of sociological theory, research methods, and contemporary social issues
Monitor, assess, and support student progress effectively
Provide targeted intervention and feedback to secure excellent outcomes
Contribute to curriculum planning and resource development
Promote wider reading, discussion, and enrichment opportunities within Social Sciences

    The Ideal Candidate Will Have

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
    Strong subject knowledge in Sociology
Experience teaching A-Level Sociology (desirable but not essential for exceptional candidates)
Ability to engage students in critical thinking and debate
Strong classroom management and communication skills
Commitment to the ethos and values of a Church of England school
A reflective, collaborative and ambitious approach to teaching and learning

    What We Offer

A supportive and ambitious Social Sciences/Humanities team
    Excellent professional development opportunities
Strong Sixth Form provision with motivated and engaged students
    A values-driven school community
High-quality teaching resources and curriculum support
Opportunities for career progression and curriculum leadership
    Salary description

    £38678.00 - £56679.00 per year
