How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Head of Project Engineering

    A leading engineering and design business within the rail sector is seeking an experienced Head of Project Engineering to lead the technical delivery of complex engineering projects from its Derby-based office.

    This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative organisation delivering high-quality engineering solutions across the rail transport industry. The successful candidate will lead a skilled Project Engineering team while driving technical excellence, compliance, and project performance across the business.

    The Role:
    As Head of Project Engineering, you will oversee the successful technical delivery of projects, ensuring engineering quality, efficiency, and compliance throughout the full project lifecycle.

    Working closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams, you will help shape engineering processes, improve best practices, and support the continued growth of the engineering function.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Lead, mentor, and develop the Project Engineering team
    • Manage engineering resources to support successful project delivery
    • Drive engineering standards, technical compliance, and best practices
    • Oversee engineering outputs including concepts, designs, reports, and procedures
    • Support project delivery from concept through to implementation
    • Ensure compliance with rail industry regulations, safety, and quality standards
    • Collaborate effectively with stakeholders across the business
    • Support continuous improvement and long-term capability development
    • Attend customer sites and meetings as required

    Requirements:
    • Strong understanding of the UK rail industry and associated standards/regulations
    • Relevant engineering or design qualifications
    • Chartered Engineer status preferred
    • Proven leadership experience within an engineering environment
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
    • Strong problem-solving and organisational abilities
    • Full UK driving licence
