How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Principal Geotechnical / Geo-environmental Engineer

    An award-winning multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is looking to appoint a Principal Geotechnical / Geo-environmental Engineer to join its growing Sheffield team.
    This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong and commercially aware professional to lead complex site investigation and contaminated land projects while playing a key role in the continued growth of the geo-environmental and geotechnical team.
    The role offers a genuine pathway toward Technical Director / Director level within a supportive and well-established consultancy environment.

    The Role

    You'll lead and manage a broad range of geo-environmental and contaminated land projects across sectors including residential, commercial, industrial, infrastructure and regeneration.
    The role will involve overseeing site investigations and remediation works, preparing and reviewing technical reports and risk assessments, managing project delivery and mentoring junior engineers within the team.
    You'll work closely with senior leadership while also supporting business development, client relationships and project growth across the wider Yorkshire region and beyond.

    Key Responsibilities

    Lead geo-environmental and contaminated land projects from inception through to completion
    Design, procure and supervise site investigations and remediation works
    Prepare and review:
    Phase 1 and Phase 2 Reports
    Remediation Strategies
    Verification Reports
    Quantitative Risk Assessments
    Interpret factual and interpretative site investigation data
    Manage project budgets, programmes and resource allocation
    Provide technical leadership and quality assurance across the team
    Mentor junior engineers and graduates
    Support bids, tenders and wider business development activities
    Maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships
    Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental standards

    What We're Looking For

    Degree qualified in Geology or related discipline
    Significant UK consultancy experience within geo-environmental engineering / contaminated land
    Strong understanding of UK contaminated land legislation and guidance
    Experience managing projects and technical teams
    Excellent report writing and communication skills
    Commercial awareness and strong client-facing ability
    Full UK driving licence
    Chartered status with the Geological Society, ICE or similar professional body
