How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    💼 Competitive Salary + Package
    📍 Flexible Regional Location
🏗️ Construction | Mission Critical | Defence | Data Centres | Technical Design

Walker & Sloan are working with an outstanding regional construction contractor to recruit a Technical Design Manager with a strong electrical bias to support the delivery of complex defence and data centre projects across the South of England.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong construction professional to join a highly respected business operating within some of the UK’s most demanding and secure project environments.

The successful candidate will play a key role within the pre-construction and delivery teams, helping drive technical coordination, design management, and stakeholder collaboration across highly serviced, mission-critical schemes.

    🏗️ The Role

As Technical Design Manager, you will take responsibility for managing and coordinating the technical design process across complex defence and data centre developments, with a particular focus on electrical systems and MEP integration.

Working closely with consultants, subcontractors, operational teams, and clients, you’ll ensure designs are technically compliant, fully coordinated, and aligned with programme and delivery objectives.

This role will suit someone with strong technical knowledge who enjoys working within fast-paced, technically challenging construction environments.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Managing the technical design process from pre-construction through to project delivery

    * Coordinating electrical design elements across complex building services packages

    * Reviewing consultant and subcontractor design information for compliance, buildability, and coordination

    * Supporting design workshops, technical reviews, and client meetings

    * Working closely with operational and commercial teams to ensure efficient project delivery

    * Managing design risk, technical queries, and change control processes

    * Ensuring compliance with defence, mission-critical, and regulatory standards

    * Supporting programme management through timely design coordination and information release

    * Liaising with clients, consultants, supply-chain partners, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle

    ✅ Candidate Profile

    * Previous experience within a Design Manager or Technical Design Manager role within construction

    * Strong electrical or MEP bias with good technical understanding of building services integration

    * Experience delivering complex projects such as data centres, defence, healthcare, or other highly serviced technical buildings

    * Background working for a main contractor or specialist contractor environment

    * Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

    * Ability to manage multiple technical packages within fast-paced project environments

    * Organised, proactive, and commercially aware approach

    💰 What’s on Offer

    * Competitive salary and comprehensive package

    * Opportunity to work on high-profile defence and mission-critical projects

    * Long-term career progression within a growing technical division

    * Collaborative and supportive working environment

    * Exposure to technically advanced and nationally significant schemes

    * Stable pipeline of secured work across the region

    📩 Interested?

If you’re a technically driven Design Manager with a strong electrical background looking to work on complex defence and data centre projects, we’d like to hear from you.
