How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    We are currently recruiting on behalf of a Local Authority in Essex for an experienced Private Sector Housing Manager to join their Environmental Health and Regulatory Services team on an interim basis for an initial 6-month assignment.

    This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced housing professional to lead and shape private sector housing enforcement and regulatory services within a progressive council environment. The role is offered on a part-time basis (2 days per week), with flexible and hybrid working arrangements available by agreement.

    Key Responsibilities of a Private Sector Housing Manager:

    HMO Licensing and compliance
    Private Sector Housing enforcement activity
    Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) inspections and interventions
    Ensuring statutory compliance across housing enforcement functions
    Leading service improvement and operational performance
    Supporting strategic priorities relating to housing standards and tenant protection
    Working collaboratively with internal departments, landlords, residents, and external stakeholdersAbout You:

    Strong experience within Private Sector Housing and Environmental Health
    Detailed knowledge of housing legislation, including HMO licensing and HHSRS
    Previous management or leadership experience within a local authority setting
    Experience overseeing enforcement and regulatory services
    Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
    The ability to quickly adapt and deliver within an interim assignmentContract Details:
    Interim contract – initial 6 months
