How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client for an enthusiastic Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of major power and energy infrastructure projects based in and around Waltham Cross.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a developing QS to gain hands-on experience within a high-profile energy programme, working on complex infrastructure schemes that are essential to the UK's energy network.

    The Opportunity

    As Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial team in delivering a range of substation, overhead line, and associated energy infrastructure projects.

    You will gain valuable exposure to NEC contracts, cost management, and change control processes while working closely with experienced Senior Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Managers. This role offers strong development opportunities within a growing and fast-paced sector.

    This position offers hybrid working with 2-3 days per week on site in Waltham Cross, providing excellent site exposure alongside flexible working.

    Key Responsibilities

    Support the commercial management of power and energy infrastructure projects
    Assist with preparation of cost plans, budgets, and forecasts
    Support cost reporting, valuations, and financial tracking across live projects
    Gain exposure to and assist with administration of NEC contracts (essential)
    Support management of Compensation Events and change control processes
    Assist with subcontractor accounts, including payments and variations
    Support procurement activities including tender preparation and evaluation
    Help identify and monitor commercial risks and opportunities
    Produce accurate and timely commercial reports and documentation
    Work collaboratively with engineers, project managers, and commercial teams

    About You

    Some experience in a Quantity Surveying or commercial construction role
    Exposure to utilities, energy, or infrastructure projects (desirable)
    Basic understanding of NEC contracts (essential or strong willingness to learn)
    Strong numerical and analytical skills
    Good communication and teamwork abilities
    Eagerness to develop within a commercial infrastructure environment
    Competent in Microsoft Office
    Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or related field (or working towards)
