How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

We are working with a growing mechanical engineering and building services contractor delivering projects across the commercial, healthcare, industrial, education, and fit-out sectors.

Due to continued growth and an increasing pipeline of work, we are looking to appoint a Mechanical Estimator to support the pre-construction and commercial teams across a wide range of mechanical installation projects.

This opportunity is open to both junior and experienced candidates. The business is keen to invest in and develop the right individual, making this an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career within estimating and pre-construction.

The role will primarily focus on mechanical take-offs and cost estimation rather than full bid management, supporting the wider commercial team by helping increase estimating capacity across multiple live enquiries.

    The Role

You will be responsible for preparing accurate mechanical estimates and quantity take-offs across heating, pipework, plumbing, and public health projects within building services environments.

Working closely with senior estimators, project teams, suppliers, and subcontractors, you will support the pricing and tendering process from enquiry through to submission.

    Key Responsibilities

Producing mechanical take-offs from drawings and specifications

Assisting with preparation of detailed cost estimates and tender submissions

Reviewing project drawings, specifications, and technical documents

Pricing mechanical heating, plumbing, pipework, and public health packages

Obtaining and analysing supplier and subcontractor quotations

Supporting the commercial and pre-construction teams with project enquiries

Assisting with value engineering and cost-saving exercises

Maintaining accurate estimating records and documentation

Liaising with internal departments, suppliers, and project stakeholders

Supporting workload across multiple tenders and live opportunities

    Requirements

Experience within mechanical estimating, building services, M&E, or mechanical contracting environments

Understanding of heating, plumbing, pipework, and public health systems

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications

Commercially aware with strong attention to detail

Proactive attitude and willingness to learn and develop

    Good communication and organisational skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities and work within deadlines

    Desirable Experience

Experience working on commercial fit-outs, office developments, hospitals, healthcare, education, or similar building services projects

Experience using EES estimating software (training can be provided)

Previous exposure to pre-construction or tendering environments

Knowledge of mechanical installation methods and materials
    Salary description

    £40000.00 - £65000.00 per year
