How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

AMS Group is a leading UK Top 60 accountancy and advisory firm, headquartered in Manchester. For over 40 years, we’ve built a reputation for delivering high‑quality, relationship‑driven services across Audit, Accounts, Tax and Advisory. From our origins as a family‑run practice in Blackburn (est. 1982), we’ve grown into a nationwide business with 350+ employees across 12 offices, supported by a strong M&A strategy with multiple acquisitions since 2021.

We believe great advisers transform businesses — and we invest heavily in our people to make that happen.

    The Role

We are seeking an experienced Tax Senior or Tax Manager to join our Manchester advisory team. This is a pure advisory role, managing a diverse portfolio of private and corporate clients and delivering high‑quality planning work across corporate, personal and family wealth tax.

You will work closely with senior managers and directors on complex assignments, gaining exposure to significant advisory projects including restructures, transactions, succession planning and wealth strategies.

    Key Responsibilities

    *

Corporate tax advisory - Advise large corporate clients on UK and international tax matters, including restructures, reorganisations, demergers, MBOs, EOTs, valuations, profit extraction strategies and due diligence.

    *

Client portfolio management - Lead and manage a portfolio of advisory clients, delivering commercially focused tax planning solutions.

    *

Business structuring - Advise on partnership formations, incorporations, trade vs investment company planning and preferred structure analysis.

    *

Transactional support - Support clients buying or selling businesses, providing clear guidance on tax implications and strategic planning.

    *

Personal & family wealth planning - Deliver advisory services including CGT planning, IHT mitigation (trusts, FICs), residence and domicile, remuneration strategies and succession planning.

    *

Wider tax planning - Advise on SDLT, IHT gifts, growth planning and broader business and personal tax opportunities.

    *

Technical collaboration - Work closely with managers and directors on complex technical assignments and high‑value advisory projects.

    *

Technical development - Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of UK tax legislation and emerging developments.

    *

Client relationship management - Build long‑term relationships through proactive communication and exceptional service delivery.

    *

Team leadership - Lead, support and develop junior team members.

    Experience & Skills Required

    *

Professional qualification - ACA, ATT, CTA, ACCA (or part‑qualified) or equivalent experience.

    *

Corporate tax advisory background - Experience advising UK and international corporate clients.

    *

Accounting knowledge - Ability to interpret statutory accounts and identify tax implications.

    *

Technical strength - Strong UK corporate tax knowledge, including reviewing computations, tax accounting and group reporting.

    *

Advisory exposure - Proven experience in restructures, reorganisations, transactions or strategic planning.

    *

Personal tax exposure - Experience in CGT, IHT, residence/domicile or remuneration planning is highly advantageous.

    *

Practice background - Experience within a Top 50 firm or reputable advisory practice.

    *

Communication skills - Ability to interpret complex legislation and communicate clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences.

    *

Approach - Proactive, analytical and solutions‑driven, with confidence managing client relationships.
