How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Our client is a leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy with a strong presence across the UK and an established reputation within the built environment sector. Due to continued growth and a significant pipeline of major projects, they are now seeking an experienced Head of Fire Engineering to lead and develop their fire engineering capability across Scotland, based from their Edinburgh office.

    This is a senior leadership opportunity for an ambitious fire engineering professional looking to play a strategic role within a highly respected consultancy delivering landmark residential, commercial, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and mixed-use developments.

    As Head of Fire Engineering, you will be responsible for leading the Scotland fire engineering team, driving technical excellence, supporting business development initiatives, and delivering high-quality fire engineering solutions across a broad portfolio of projects.

    You will work closely with regional and national leadership teams to grow the division, mentor engineers, and strengthen client relationships throughout Scotland and the wider UK market.

    Key Responsibilities

    Lead and manage the Fire Engineering team across Scotland
    Deliver innovative fire engineering strategies and technical solutions
    Oversee complex projects from concept through to completion
    Develop and maintain strong client relationships
    Support business development and work-winning activities
    Mentor and develop junior and senior engineering staff
    Ensure compliance with UK fire safety regulations and standards
    Collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams across major projects
    Contribute to the strategic growth of the fire engineering division

    Requirements

    Degree qualified in Fire Engineering or a related discipline
    Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership
    Extensive experience within consultancy fire engineering
    Strong technical knowledge of UK fire safety legislation and standards
    Proven leadership and team management experience
    Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
    Experience delivering fire strategies across a range of sectors
    Commercial awareness and business development capability
