How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Parkinson Gray Associates delivers a proven service to some of the leading consulting, engineering, and Contracting businesses within the British construction industry, predominantly across the building services, energy, and Sustainability sectors.

Our client is a highly respected engineering consultancy recognised for delivering technically complex building services solutions across some of the UK’s most demanding construction environments. Their work spans large-scale commercial developments, advanced manufacturing facilities, high-specification workplaces, critical infrastructure and technically intensive refurbishment projects where precision engineering and coordinated delivery are essential.

Rather than operating as a volume-driven consultancy, the business has built its reputation on technical capability, long-term client partnerships and engineering-led project delivery. Their teams are heavily involved at every stage of the design process - from early-stage feasibility and performance modelling through to detailed coordination, construction support and commissioning.

The Manchester office has become a key technical hub within the wider business, combining experienced engineers, BIM specialists and project delivery professionals within a collaborative environment that encourages autonomy, technical input and continuous development. Engineers within the business are given genuine responsibility, exposure to major projects and the opportunity to contribute to innovative low-carbon and sustainable building solutions.

With a strong pipeline of secured work and continued investment across digital engineering and BIM capability, the company is entering another phase of strategic growth, making this an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Designer seeking long-term progression within a technically ambitious consultancy.

    Location: Manchester City Centre
    Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 (depending on experience)
    Employment Type: Permanent

    The Opportunity:

This role will suit an experienced Mechanical Designer who enjoys technically challenging projects and wants to work in an environment where engineering quality is prioritised over volume production.

You will be involved in the design and coordination of mechanical building services systems from concept through to detailed design and construction support. The position requires a strong technical understanding of HVAC and public health systems alongside the ability to coordinate effectively within multidisciplinary BIM-led project environments.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting senior engineers, mentoring junior technicians and ensuring the technical delivery of projects aligns with programme, specification and client expectations.

    Key Responsibilities:

    * Develop detailed mechanical building services designs for a range of complex construction projects across multiple sectors.

    * Produce coordinated HVAC and public health layouts using Revit and AutoCAD within BIM Level 2 project environments.

    * Prepare detailed mechanical design documentation including equipment schedules, schematics, technical specifications and coordinated services drawings.

    * Undertake ventilation, heating and cooling load calculations alongside pipework and ductwork sizing using industry-recognised design software.

    * Coordinate mechanical services integration with electrical, structural and architectural disciplines to ensure clash-free design delivery.

    * Support the development of low-energy and decarbonisation-focused design strategies including heat pump systems, heat recovery technologies and energy-efficient HVAC solutions.

    * Participate in technical design reviews, project meetings and client coordination workshops.

    * Conduct site surveys, inspections and construction-stage support activities to ensure installation quality and compliance with design intent.

    * Assist with mentoring junior designers and technicians within the mechanical team.

    * Maintain awareness of current industry regulations, British Standards, CIBSE guidance and emerging technologies within the building services sector.

    Requirements:

    * Demonstrable experience within a Mechanical Design or Building Services Design position.

    * Strong understanding of HVAC systems, ventilation strategies and mechanical services coordination.

    * Experience working within UK based consultancy or contractor design environments.

    * Proficiency in Revit MEP and AutoCAD.

    * Ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings and project requirements independently.

    * Strong communication and coordination skills with both internal teams and external stakeholders.

    * Experience contributing to technically complex or large-scale projects would be highly beneficial.

    * HNC/HND or Degree qualification within Building Services Engineering or Mechanical Engineering preferred.

    What’s on Offer:

    * Competitive salary package.

    * Hybrid working flexibility.

    * Structured career progression within a growing technical team.

    * Exposure to high-profile and technically challenging projects.

    * Modern Manchester office environment with strong investment in technology

    * Supportive and collaborative engineering culture focused on technical excellence rather than corporate hierarchy.

If you are a Mechanical Designer looking for a more technically focused environment with genuine project variety and long-term career progression, we would like to hear from you
