How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Head of Science –  Permanent – September Start
    Are you an ambitious Head of Science  looking for an exciting new challenge? Or an experienced Science Teacher ready to step into a leadership role? This successful secondary school in Shrewsbury is looking to appoint a dynamic and dedicated Head of Science for a permanent September start.

    This is an excellent opportunity to lead a successful and well-supported Science department within a school that is known for its strong leadership, positive learning environment and excellent facilities. The school places a strong focus on high standards, staff development and student achievement, creating an environment where both staff and students can thrive.

    As Head of Science, you will lead the department across Key Stages 3 and 4, driving standards of teaching, learning and progress throughout the subject area. You will support and develop staff, oversee curriculum planning and ensure students receive engaging and challenging Science lessons that inspire a love of the subject.

    This role would suit an experienced Head of Science or a strong classroom practitioner looking to take the next step into middle leadership.

    Job Role:

    Leading and managing the Science department across Key Stages 3 and 4
    Driving high standards of teaching, learning and student achievement
    Supporting and developing teachers within the department
    Planning and implementing an engaging and ambitious Science curriculum
    Monitoring progress and using data to support improvement strategies
    Promoting high expectations and positive behaviour within the department
    Supporting whole-school improvement initiatives and leadership priorities
