The Head of IT is responsible for leading the organisation’s technology strategy, ensuring the effective, secure, and innovative use of IT systems to support business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Overview
* Develop and guide IT strategy in line with business objectives
* Lead and develop the IT team
* Liaise with third-party providers and negotiate services and contracts
* Advise senior leadership on technological opportunities, risks, and investments
* Establish IT governance frameworks, policies, and standards
IT Operations & Infrastructure
* Oversee day-to-day IT operations, including infrastructure, networks, and systems
* Maintain system and data security and reliability
* Review, maintain, and implement IT policies
* Ensure high availability, performance, and scalability of IT services
* Maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans
Cybersecurity & Compliance
* Lead cybersecurity strategy, ensuring protection of systems, data, and assets
* Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and standards (e.g., GDPR, Cyber Security Accreditation)
* Implement risk management processes and monitor security posture
* Manage incident response and recovery procedures
Project & Change Management
* Lead IT projects and programmes from initiation through delivery
* Manage budgets, timelines, and resources effectively
* Ensure successful adoption of new systems and technologies
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
* Manage relationships with external IT suppliers and service providers
* Negotiate contracts and ensure value for money
Team Leadership
* Lead, mentor, and develop the IT team
* Foster a high-performance, collaborative culture
* Ensure appropriate resource planning and workforce capability
Key Skills & Experience
Essential
* Significant experience in a senior IT leadership role
* Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, cloud technologies, and enterprise systems
* Expertise in cybersecurity, risk management, and compliance
* Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
* Strategic thinking and commercial awareness
This role demands a high degree of flexibility, with a requirement to respond to issues and priorities outside of standard working hours when necessary
